Draining coolant
I know there's supposed to be a petcock valve to drain the coolant, where is it at? Is it on the bottom of the backside of the radiator? I'm finally going to install a temp gauge today and need to drain some out first.

Yes, it is at the bottom left corner of the engine side of the radiator. A 3/8 inch hose over the end into a 5 gallon bucket and you will have zero spillage. I'd say you need to drain 2 gallons or more to get below the temp sensor in the head. Pull off the radiator cap for venting.

I don't have a hose or anything and it doesn't sound like it'd be easy getting one on there, so I just did my best to get what I could into a bucket. Looks pretty dirty since it went through the skid plate, so I don't plan on re-using it.
Got dark so tomorrow I plan on finishing with the gauge and putting some new coolant in.

sometimes you can cheat the system by having your new sensor all prepped to go in, and work on a full system with fast hands, only losing a few ounces of coolant between pulling the one and putting the other in.
but of course, if you needed to change the coolant anyway, this is a good excuse to do it
