Well this all started a few days ago when I got up to go to class and found my trucks windows were all dripping wet on the INSIDE. So i decided it was time to make new weather barriers for my doors as well as clean out the track for my moonroof. While I was doing the doors I dropped a screw on the passenger side floor board. Went to move the floor mat to grab it and the bottom of it was soaking wet. Nobody has sat on that side in weeks. Sure enough the carpet is soaking wet as well. Pulled it back to find th floor is soaking wet under the carpet as well as this shield/insulation on the firewall.
Im sure its due to the mass rain we have been having. I've looked around and it seems the probable cause is the windshield seal. I had the windshield replaced 3 months ago. Haven't noticed it until now. I have a warranty for a year on it. Before I go in there and have them try and say its not the issue, I wanted your guys input.
There is most likely leaves in the cowl. Ill go ahead and clean that out. What is the best way to do that? There is actually a form of a grommet there Brad. Its a rubber ring that covers all of the metal on the fire wall. It wont split that red wire. However since you pointed that out I will go ahead and grab one here soon and put it in. The seam between the cowl and the firewall, is that accessed from outside the cab?
I resealed that seam Brad is referring to on my truck. I used brushable seam sealer from Eastwood I think.
Also when cleaning out the cowl, make sure to clean out the driver side lower area behind the fender and the drain. The drain is hard to see, but its just above the rear of the inner fender. There is a rubber flap type deal on it.
I used a shop vac first. Then I used a fiberglass stick from a tent and the hose.
Yeah get a grommet on the wire, even if you just cut a slit in the grommet. Then smear a little black RTV on it.
Pulled the cowl and there was no debris in it at all. Checked the seam and it looked just fine. So I sprayed inside the cowl with the hose and left it running while I pulled the carpet back. Let it do it for 5 minutes and no water came into the cab. Then I moved onto spraying the windshield down for about 5 minutes. No water coming into the cab. Now I am back to square one. Any ideas where the water could be coming from? I know I need that grommet, which I will hopefully get in the next few days. Just seems like its not likely that much water could be coming in from in.
All the seal on the side windows are good. The rear cargo light needs a new gasket, but I cant find one for it. The rear carpet is not wet at all. Its only on the passenger side on the floor. I did check the driver side firewall and the insulation on that side is also damp.
have you happen to check behind the fan motor to see if the air system has condinsation in it? maybe the vac actuator for the defrost is letting in water that is dripping into the vents.
