OK,here it is.
Talked to the people at Pro.Perf. and they suggested I call Bassani direct, which I did.The picture on P.P.'s site that says
equalizer pipes w/cats is actually a picture of an X pipe unit, with cats.for the Lightening engine! That's why the large gasket to the right has 2 large holes.
The closest representation of the Y pipe with 1 cat. is actually the
picture under the heading of offroad equalizer pipes w/o cats.
Just add the cat. to the end of the straight tube.
Thanks all!
I'm confused.Greystreak, you have the unit we've been talking about and it has the air tube, but WheelMA1,YOURS DOES NOT.
Different applications for diff.model years?Do I need the air tube to pass insp.?I'm sure though, Pro.Perf. will sell me the proper unit.
'96 model year saw the introduction of the ODBII emissions/engine control system. The air injection is in a different location than our trucks. Your 91 and my 92 have an air injection tube running from a vacuum operated diverter valve at the back of the right side of the motor down into the catalytic converter. If you are uncertain, check the emissions decal under the hood. All the air injection hoses should be shown there. The air injection tube is necessary to introduce fresh air into the cat. so it will heat up and perform its function to burn off additional exhaust emissions. If the stock Y-pipe has the air tube, the Bassani replacement will have it as well. The tube is all steel on the stock pipe, the Bassani pipe has a hose barb and a length of high temp. hose is provided to run to the existing tube coming down from the diverter valve.
Thanks greystreak92,
It finally stopped raining here in the Philly area,so I was able to get down under the truck.Yes I do have that air injection tube.
Thanks for the info.
And wheelMA1,
The unit is a slip conn. and the size of the inlet on the Flowmaster
is 3".The guy who put it on welded a reducer pipe,3"from the F.M. to the stock smaller pipe coming out of the cat.conv.
So,I think I should be good to go with the Bassani unit!
Hey Sudsrat (and anyone else who may be interested),
This may be too little too late but, I just posted a few pics of the Bassani Y-pipe that is currently UNDER my '92 XLT. Don't mind the rust on it...thats from the rusty brine that covers St. louis roads during the winter. It comes right off. System is two years old and still no signs of deterioration. Truth of the matter is, the photos should give pretty good reference to O2 sensor location, A.I.R. injection hose/tube location and general size and routing when installed. I posted them in a second album "under the truck". The "Grey Streak 92" album just has beauty shots and a few topless pics in it that I added as well.
Pics look great. You have just helped my solitify in my mind that I am gonna buy that y-pipe. The only question is y-pipe first or headers first, I am gonna get the bassani headers too. and prorbably run 3" out through a 50 series Flowmaster.
oh yea where under the truck is the location of the bassani cat? where the stock first on is or where the second one is under the skip plate or is it somewhere in between I couldn't tell from your picture.
The Bassani system that is getting all the noise here... were you saying all 96XLT's have 3 o2 sensors? Also, is your system top to bottom Bassani? that is, did you get the Bassani headers and and finish off at the tip? I already have a Gibson side swept exhaust but am considering replacement cats and am wondering if the the high flow cats and the Gibson make a workable pair.
Yeah, nice pics. Greystreak92. I doubt I'll get to purchasing this unit before this thread runs out.Getting married in Sept. and footing the bill for the whole gig! BUT, you never know.I'm looking forward to this upgrade.
Yes, model year 96 Y pipes have 3 bungs. Yes, I have the complete system from ceramic headers to chrome tip. If the Gibson is newer, there should be no reason to change it. I ran a Gibson system on a F150 and like it alot. You will get a deeper exhaust note if you add the high flow Y pipe.
Once again, "ditto" to what Rich (wheelMA1) posted. My headers are just the chrome not ceramic but otherwise the entire exhaust system is Bassani. I would imagine if you are happy with your "cat back" system and want to keep it, there should be no problem as long as the cat back is 3". I wouldn't want to try to squeeze down from 3" coming out of the Bassani cat and Y-pipe.
Oh and BTW, Sudsrat, When I got married three years ago, the wife and I ended up with enough $$$ in gifts and cash to buy the complete system three times over...maybe you could see if your fiancee would let you do a wedding registry at Proficient Performance!
Oh,that would be quite a feat. No,she's a great girl and totally
supports my hobbies and interests.Namely my truck and surf fishing. It's also great that she loves the Bronco and the beach!
But yeah, those are my plans.A few goodies for each and a new house.
Hey Dutch,
Not yet.If you check out my previous 2 posts you'll understand why!But since I get so physched about upgrading the Bronc,I may not wait.I have a long list of things I'd like to do on the truck.
So I like to gather as much info. as possible before hand.
I'll keep you posted.
