Hello all, I found a new floor covering material. it is a graphite quartz epoxy, was going to paint the floor but that wears off and when steel casters run over it it peels and chips. I then thought of industrial floor tiles..to do the garage it was about $500.00 plus my time to install. then while at a clients home talked with a guy doing the floor surfaces...was a cool looking textured stuff he said it could be smooth as glass or rough like a 40 grit sand paper or anywhere between. He explained that it is used by the military in the hangers, it is chemical resistant, anti static, and easy to resurface if neccessary.
can be mixed to any color can be done in patterns....and it was only 450.00 to do all the material and labor....put in my order for a nice blueish grey slight texture...
Hey I got an excellent floor myself. Two acres of grass does just fine for us country boys. LOL. If it gets dirty move to a new spot. If it gets wore out just reseed it. Doubles as a mudhole after it rains. And that is what it is all about ..... versatility. LOL.
Looking at the motormat it looks cool, but have you priced it out?? to do a 20X20 garage would run over $1000.00. and how often do you need to pull it up and clean under it??
I'm not trying to put it down but I was looking for a cheaper way to do it. the more money I save the more I can spend on the truck. If money was no object then I would be all over that stuff
Siko makes a urathane paint for cement floors that comes in all kinds of colours including white. First coat on a new 13 X 25 ft garage will take pretty much a full gallon. Second and third coats are both easily covered with a a second gallon. Dries enough for recoating in 4 hours. Looks good, not slipperly, even when wet. Not prone to chipping unless hit hard.
I'm happy with it, though I might not have gone with white if I was doing it over.
I personally have black and white checkered tile look like a big chess board. I like it and get many compliments. Draw back is if you have a spill it is VERY slippery! Ouch its hurts too!
I am thinking about the tile, but I have also thought about the problem with it being slippery. Being in the airforce, I know what the stuff that floring guy is talking about it is nice, it looks decent, is not slippersy, and can be any texture you want. or color. It is nice, but that checkered look just looks awe some.
BTW, how due you keep the tile from being stained? just wax it alot?
Yikes, some of those options sound like big bucks to me. I wonder if anyone has tried using the Rust-O-Leum Road Warrior roll in bedliner kits on their garage floor? The kits seem to run under $30 and are impact, abrasion, and chemical resistant. They are also textured.
I just finished rolling it into my truck bed yesterday. I put some on top of the bumper to test when it's dry. I'm curious as to how well it works as a non slip surface.
I am planning on using a very light gray epoxy paint with some sort of texture material on my new garage and shop floors. I may look into that urethane product tho.
whether you paint or epoxy the concrete floor make sure you clean , clean and clean the floor before you coat it. i wax tile and epoxy floors for a living.
on concrete use a mild mixture of miratic acid to etch the floor first. most paint stores carry epoxy paint. its not hard to do a little time consumming.
oilbased products will not hurt a waxed floor, solvent will take the wax off and harm the tile. rust will do the same.
I don't know how much it is, but I bet it's not less than the stuff the Air Force uses.
Race deck does give you the tiled look though with a diamond plate type surface. I don't know what it's made out of though and how well it would hold up to actually being worked on.
