Good Fuel Cleaners

I drive a 2002 F-350 7.3 PSD 4x4 SC LB SRW Stock. Alright, so I got this issue where my truck seems to be running a bit sluggish. RPMs seem a little lower than usual, more vibration, less power, etc. The SES light even came on when all this started a few days ago. This all just came out of nowhere. A buddy of mine with a 7.3 F-250 said that I need to drain the fuel in the fuel bowl and replace the filter. Then he said to top the fuel bowl off with Sea Foam. He said it's good to use some of type of fuel cleaner every now and then. I have never used any fuel cleaners. Oil was changed after these problems started.

Does this Sea Foam stuff really work to fix problems like this. I would like to try something like this before I start pulling the injectors out for O-ring problems. What type of cleaners do you all use and how often. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Do not use SEA FOAM.. this is my opinion, and it mayonly be based on my experience.. DO NOT USE SEA FOAM. If others have had better luck, so be it.

Can I ask how many miles you have on your truck, what mods you may have?

This is what alot of us use..https://www.google.com/search?q=dies...A&ved=0CEcQsxg

Truck just hit 192,000 yesterday. It's stock except for a 4 inch exhaust.

I've have heard good things about Diesel Kleen as well. Might have to give it a try.

Since you are in Tn, post in their chapter, ALOT of great guys there that may be able to take a look with you.

Things you may want to look at,

Under the cover harness, known as the .50 mod.

Does it run better after it warms up?

Maybe unplug the EBPV at the base of the turbo, see if there is a difference.

Since the SES light came on, it would be nice if yo could pull the code, that would help alot.

Below are the products I've used and can recommend.

Diesel Kleen - readily available
Stanadyne - generally have to order over internet
Opti-Lube - generally have to order over internet

I currently use either Schaeffer's Diesel Treat 2000 and Neutra products - only available from a Schaeffer rep unless there is a retail store near you.

If you want to fill your fuel bowl with a cleaner you can use straight DK or use some of this, available at some auto part stores or via web:

Alright, got a thread started in the TN Chapter Forum. Hopefully, someone close will have a scanner. Thank you all for the great suggestions. It seems that Diesel Kleen is the most popular one to use.

Diesel Kleen is good stuff, but really doubt that is your problem. Find that scanner and check your codes, go from there. A whole bunch of stuff can go wrong before even thinking about replacing injectors.

I just went through the same symptoms. Less power, vibration when trying to gain speed, ses. I checked under the valve covers as instructed from members on here, and the harness on the driver's side was about 1/2 way unplugged. Passenger side was ok. Performed the .50 cent mod and test drove. everything is good again.

I vote Diesel Kleen and UVCH. However, I think only one of those will fix your problem, and it aint the DK.

I thought I had read that the UVCH wasn't an issue on the later model 7.3s. Didn't they change the Harness to fix the problem that the .50 cent mod is supposed to fix?

Interesting... I guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend. Anything else I should check while in there? Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

While you're in there you can check torque on injector hold-down bolts (10 ft-lbs) and rocker arms (20 ft-lbs).
