Well, I've gone and done it. I've had Chevys for years and now I've bought a Ford van...a retired church van, w/only 99K on it. In the last 7 years, they've only put 3K on it. I must confess that I don't know much about the beast...tis a 12 passenger '84 E250. I don't know anything about working on the motor and etc.
It has a 351 w/a 2bbl. And, no cat.
My question...I was told that the motor was succeptable to the timing chain stretching. Dat Tru?
How badly do the exhaust manifolds flow?
It seems to have seeping waterpump, which I will tackle soon.
sounds like your water pump should happen as soon as possible. the timing chain stretching seems to happen on any engine driven by a chain, and should be replaced any time you happen to have the cover off, whether that be to reseal it or whatever. they seem to last a long time, and at only 100k, i wouldn't be too worried about it.
the fact that people complain about the timing chain means that the engine as a whole lasts long enough that people don't complain of them dying before that becomes an issue - unlike some modern engines by other manufacturers that i hear of blowing up in their first few years
Welcome aboard.
99K miles - that should be just about broken in... altho it sounds like the maintenence "may have been" neglected a little(?)
Lots of good help on here! Good luck with your new ride.
