Okay I'm just going to turn this into my truck hunt thread
what are your opinions on buying a truck out of state, I found one next state over (ohio) in my price range, clean with 180k miles exactly what im looking for, its just.. is it practical going through the hassle to pay a buddy/family to drive you out there to buy a vehicle? its roughly 4.5 hours away one way, the truck will be my daily driver so it might aswell be exactly what I want, have any of you done similar when buying your trucks?
I'd go for it. I drove about 2 hours to by my 7.3l. We have members here who have flown to buy their trucks and driven them home. If it's what you want, go for it.
I pulled a tow dolley with a VW Bug 600 miles to meet a guy for his pickup. I loaded the Bug on the tow dolley and went home. Be sure to see if the pickup has a trailer hitch before doing this, LOL
We drove my Saturn aprx. two hours (each way) to pick up our first PSD, then a year later, drove the first PSD another two hours (each way) to pick up the second PSD. Come to think of it, we took two trips picking out, then picking up, the first one.
Yup, Bill (Rebilld) and I drove about 2.5 hours into Virginia to get my CC a few months ago. It's just hard to find clean trucks in our area due to the rust issues - they salt the roads like crazy. The guy that had my CC only had it for a few months, and it came from NC. Virtually rust free!
The only limiting factor is this: How long can you take a car drive with whatever relative of yours will be taking you there? Figure that out, draw yourself a perimeter circle, and keep looking! Luckily, you only have to ride with them one way, if all goes well!
I say YES for buying a truck out of state. But you are looking int the WRONG state. OH has just as bad of rust issues as NY. Look SOUTH and WEST.
I bought my 86 from out in OR and had it shipped back. 2 years ago a buddy of mine paid for my flight to TX to look over a truck for him. I spent the next 22 hours driving it back to NJ
Haha thanks all you guys, makes me feel better, when I asked some of my family members to give me a ride and offered to pay they gave me a gasp face when I told them its 4.5 hours away, kinda made me feel stupid lol.
that truck in ohio is out of the playbook, had a long conversation on the phone and found it its been hot rodded and owned by a 17 YO kid in highschool who also "shot the bed with my .22"
however I just found another, 1995 f250 ext cab long bed dark blue my favorite color on these truck ever since my papa's 84 f250 6.9 was that color, 5 speed 4x4 with 105k miles! only problem is rust I would need to fix on ext. cab part of cab and the fact it has a POS dana 50 ttb, but the asking price isnt bad if I can talk him down the price of a dana 60 I'll go for it, oh also this truck is 4 hours away
