got the front clip off on friday and i got the front axle off yesterday, it doesnt seem bent but the tie rods are i think. the drivers side hub also doesnt lock when put into "lock" but the passenger side does. onto the pictures.
I need ALL the dimensions for this spring hanger as were going to just make our own and make it tougher, can anyone give us the dimensions?
OK so here is the picture i have a big question about; does this mean its a 351M or is it still possibly a 400? the vin even says its a 351M so im thinking it isnt a 400. if it isnt a 400 then ill just sell this to someone or maybe even the PO cause he said he wants it and do the famous 460 swap.
Going 351m/400 to a 460 is a fairly straight-forward swap, you wouldn't need a new bellhousing that way either.. I went from what used to be a 360 (bought truck with no engine) to a 429 (think destroked 460). That was a little bit of work, but it's in there and running good. If the engine that's in it runs good, why yank it? Seems like your creating more work than you need right now. I am in the same situation as you are, in school and make next to nothing for a paycheck. Check out my build thread in my signature for ideas, feel free to shoot me a PM. I would be glad to help you any way I can, or share any research I have found with you.
im using this as a learning experience and i want to make it my own. once its done im never going to want to sell it so i might as well do it the way i want i guess. i found this and the guy said hell take 300 and i think it already has the accessories and motor mounts plus i wont need to get the headers for the 400 fixed. i can get the other stuff, before i do this i will need to talk to the PO and im calling his dad tomorow to talk about getting the heads worked and get educated since i really dont know squat about heads. good thing is i have another truck that runs good enough that i can drive til i get this one fixed how i like.
Hehehe.. that sounds awfully familiar.. Well good luck with the truck, feel free to ask me about anything. Although you want it to be "your" truck, facts are still facts, and I have quite a few of them to help you out.
if i do swap it kinda cant be more simple. i would want to get the suspension fixed first which would require new front leafs, and wouldnt super duty front leafs work? thinking about doing an 8" arch lift on the front and 4" arch on rear with 4" blocks.
Superduty springs do work. Some people say its a direct bolt-on, some say it requires a little modification (albeit not much). That is something you will have to figure out for yourself, because I just kept the stock suspension on my truck.
well i bought my truck wrecked so the drivers side leafs are slighty bent and the U bolts are too, and on the pssenger side the ubolts are twisted up and the lefts and broken, the spring hanger is done, as you can see in the picutures and where it bolts to the bottom of the frame it bent up. gonna build our own and weld it on, make it nice and STRONG.
Time for an update. Havent really done anything on the truck cause i work on weekends and ive been working on my f100 after school a lot. on wednesday i traded the 5 ton facelaoders i had for a set of 85 dodge 350 1tons, fresh bearings and gaskets, 1 yearish old 5.13s, locking front hubs, new front brakes and nothing for the rear. dana 60/dana 70 combo. only problem is the passenger side pumpkin but that shouldnt be an issue with the divorced 205 and the lift i plan on doing. on to the pictures
