Thanks. I've had the DP for years. That kit is nice, but w/o porting the head and getting a nice cam, those mods produce a fraction of what they are capable of. After porting, the next step up with performance, is to get over-size valves installed, like I have.
So you have a 4 barrel intake ?
and this is the carb ?
I posted the link above to show what Jeg's was recommending with their kit with a 4 barrel intake
So 390 cfm .. seems like overkill with the 465 cfm you have
I agree , Holley recommends there 450 CFM for small cu.in. V8s ,The 390 CFM would be a much better choice .
With a near stock 300 the 390 would be great. I know many 300 guys who run them. However, my engine has the equivalent HP of a 390 v8 with a 2v carb. It likes more cfm than most 300's.
Thanks for posting the Jegs link. I've seen that kit before, but always enjoy seeing it again.
Rule of thumb is 1.5 X c.i. displacement, so a 450 cfm should be right.
Since I've had this engine I've run two autolite 4100 480 cfm carbs designed for 289's. I also ran a 600 cfm 4100, an Edelbrock 500, an 800 cfm Quadrajet, and am currently running a 750 cfm QJ. (The QJ is a variable cfm carb, and the tiny primaries work well on any engine, from small v6's to 500 c.i. caddy v8's.)
I don't have much experience with Holleys though, and was hoping for some general information about 4160, 465 cfm Holley.
