Ok because this frame i am looking at has stars stamped with it... Im going dmv tomorrow to check about this frame and title issue.. I hope it pans out for me
In some states, if you have a bill of sale, you can get a salvage title for the vehicle after they run it to make sure it's not on the hot (stolen) list.
I don't know about NV, but here most of the DMV offices are run by contactors, not by the state. The clerks are minimum wage employees of the contractor. IF you want information on anything they don't see every day they are clueless and not interested in going out of their way to find the answer. If you can't get a definitive answer supported by printed statute, you may want to contact your state DMV headquarters and ask to talk to a senior supervisor. Most states have some sort of regulation specifying how to obtain a title for a salvage or homebuilt vehicle.
It's possible if you have all the proper paperwork for your good truck, you can go through the proper channels and do the frame swap and have the new frame stamped or tagged by the state patrol or other responsible state agency with the current vin number to keep everything legal. Of course, they're going to want to see some docs on the new frame to know what happened to the rest of that truck. But it would be one way to do it properly. I'll be interested to see what your state has to say about their procedure. Good luck.
So i wen to dmv and they told me if it does not have a title to not buy it because they will consider it stolen even with a bill of sale. If I have the proper title to the new frame and its of the same year make and model of my body then they can issue a rebuilt title if the frame is of a different year make or model with good title they will issue a special built ttle and its harder to get that approved he said... So im going to attemp to fix this frame and look for a same year f100 frame...
Then if "someone" in NV happens to have a bare frame with a good title for that frame that is of any year 53-55, and it happens that "someone" puts sheetmetal on it from a 53, 54, or 55 or any combination thereof, there is nothing on any of that sheetmetal that positively IDs which year(s) each piece was produced with the exception of the ID tag attached to the inside of the glove compartment door. There is no way to tell if that sheetmetal is or isn't the same parts that rolled out of the factory on that frame. That's why the frame stamp is the only legal identifier, that glove box door ID tag or the entire glove box door could have easily disappeared or been switched from/to another truck. In fact a replacement ID tag is easily obtained to match the # on the frame from several vendors as long as you have the title for the frame, if it happened to be missing. Then that "someone" could theoretically just apply for a new title, no rebuilt title even needed.
Just sayin'...
PS: you might want to check to see if the title you got with your truck matches the number on the frame you got since that frame was modified.
As long as it does, you might want to get that other frame and just splice the front of your frame and the rear of the new frame together, (I'd probably splice it at the rear cab mount, the doubler would look "factory" there) then it wouldn't matter if you got a title or any other paperwork for the new frame. If the current seller doesn't have the right title for it, that would be a major bargaining chip to get a low price on it.
