Hello all. Im having some problems of getting conflicting information from different shops and people so i would like to try and get a rock solid anwser on here. I have a 94 150 5.0 2wd with an e4od. the trans went out so i got a replacement from another 94 with a bad front pump. ok were my question comes to play from my research 95 and 96 e4od front pumps will fit the 94 and in 95 they offer a higher flow pump whatever that really does and they real benifits i dont know either. i just bought a 95 front pump off ebay and when it got here i noticed it was alot bigger than my 94 so will they really inerchange or did i get the wrong pump? what will fit my 94? does anyone know of a good place to get a pump that will fit my trans for under 100? i paid 55 for mine but agin it wont fit and i been having problems finding them..Is it really that benifical to get the higher flowing 95 or stay with the 94? im always up for improvments. hopefully i get some good discussions and info here thanks
The later larger displacement E4OD pumps fit into the earlier E4ODs. If the pump is not fitting it, it is either not an E4OD pump or you have the 4R70W and not an E4OD.
I just got the casting numbers from both pumps the old one is rff4ap-72125-aa and the new one is rf-f5tp-7b324-aa and the trans tag say aode/w. The trans is an e4od. The new pump is alot larger in diameter and thickness and the rear of the pump looks alot different aswell. I do have.pics of both pump aswell if i can figure out how to post the i will later
If the tag says "aode/w" then you have a 4R70W transmission and NOT a E4OD.
And no a E4OD pump will not fit a 4R70W transmission.
You would have a very rare 1994 5.0L truck if it had a E4OD in it.
The 4R70W is the AOD-E transmission with a wide-ratio gearset. The AOD-E itself is an AOD with electronic controls. No relation whatsoever to the E4OD.
So your trans tag saying AODE/W tells us it's an AOD-E, with wide ratio gearset, which makes it a 4R70W.
That being said, if you'd like you should be able to swap to a 98+ transmission, as these had stronger internals. You have to switch your old electronics over, (TCC solenoid, EPC solenoid, shift solenoids, TOT sensor) but the guts inside the case are updated parts. Specifically, it will have a mechanical diode instead of a 1-way roller clutch, and I think a center support bearing instead of bushing <--- might be thinking of E4OD on this, been awhile since I messed with a 4R70W.
OK thanks now that I realise I have a 4r70w is that a good trans? I would like to update it but I don't have the money and time to do a swap. But since I do have to replace the pump what years will interchange with it and is there a better year of a pump to put in it since I'm replacing it anyways? Thanks for your help
