Hello..... I have a 2005 excursion and my radio is possessed. It will flip stations and change mode settings. From AM to FM then DVD and back to the CD player. Also my volume goes all the way up. I tried replacing my batteries. Same thing happens. I tried replacing the steering wheel controls. Still does it. I pulled the radio out and had it tested too. Yep....still does it. I've been stumped for a week. I did read some stuff about wiring under the drivers seat that maybe the culprit but that's why I'm here. Has anybody heard of this?
On mine sometimes there will be a package or something behind the console that is between the front seats pushing on the controls back there. You may not have them, but if you do I would check that.
Unfortunately this is a fairly common thing with older Ford factory radios. You can replace it with a used one but it's probably best to go the aftermarket route. Lots of choices out there.
I have a good friend thats a Ford Factory radio repair/replace guy. He goes from dealership to dealership repairing and replacing factory radios. Mine was acting goofy, and i really didnt want to put an aftermarket in it. I called him and after getting a really big discout off of retail I still opted to go to a Kenwood DDX-719 DVD in dash player. Very glad I did! Go aftermarket you wont be disapointed there are a ton of really nice stereos out there from many different makers that are cheaper than stock. Just beware that aftermarket attracts the thieves.
There are many Youtube videos on how to make it work with an aftermarket radio.
I put in an AVIC-BT940 in my 2000 and I love it.
I have the factory one that I had fixed when I bought the truck. Works great. If you can wait about a month for me to get back in the country you can have it for shipping cost.
I may take you up on that radio, Bodaddio. I will also look into some aftermarket radios. Thanks for those part numbers. Now I have some direction. I guess I will also check the wire harness that goes to the controls on the center console. I heard that there might be some pinched wires under the drivers seat. I'll check tomorrow. Thanks again!
Just another idea, if you have steering wheel controls, you could also be getting a corrupted signal from them. It's really only one wire that tells the radio to do all the different things it does from the wheel. A known voltage is run through specific series resistors in the buttons for each command, that changes the output signal voltage, and it's sent to the head unit. You could disconnect the signal wire going into the head unit to prove that isn't the source of the problem.

Ok, that right there got you a rep whack from me with my rep bat!
I will disconnect that harness from the back of the radio tomorrow. That's a great way to check. Thanks William_04_x! I'm checking out the you tube link as well. I hope that something works. Also something I should share with everybody. I work two jobs right now. So time for me is limited. I will do my best to keep you all updated. Thanks again!
