Seen a couple posts about the factory bedrails. How rare are they? I have a 68 and like the look of them. I'm bidding on some..but definitely don't wanna overpay..what do you guys think?
I haven't really researched the bed rails. They do look good on some trucks.... not the look I'm going for, so, I'm not much help on pricing for these...
Mr. Wilson will know, don't think Ford offered bed rails, but could be corrected.
Dealer installed accessory also available at the parts counter, introduced in 1970 8' Stylesides, retrofitted to previous years.
The same 8' bedrails were used thru 1991. The same 6 1/2' bedrails were intro'd in 1973, retrofitted to previous years and used thru 1991.
While many FTE members love them, I never cared for them. Limits reaching into the bed, unless you have ape arms. Have to remove them to install a camper shell, or use the stake pockets.
Mr. Wilker, Ford offered so many accessories back then, it would boggle your mind. Ever see a: vacuum ash tray, or a cigarette lighter/map light combination?
A "convertible" top with portholes for 1966 F100/250 Stylesides? Or bed steps for 1961/66 Stylesides...and Econoline pickups?

Back when you could order a truck JUST LIKE YOU WANTED IT. Not how the factory wants to build it (like today).

Well Mr. Dummy did they have the Ford logo on them?
My 1970 F100 with Explorer package came with bed rails that screwed into the top of the bed. I believe these rails were used from 70-72. I found a set last summer and quickly purchased them. This is the only set I have ever found for sale.
I have also used the rails from 73 and beyond on my trucks. These rails can be modified to work with the bumpsides and fit in bed pockets which is nice (no screw damage to the truck). These rails are also getting harder to find in nice condition but I run across them more frequently.
Like 70 Explorer said the 70-72's you had to drill like 10 holes on each side to mount them it still gave you the option to use the front and rear stake holes the 73 up models you took the center perch off and you moved it just a few inches to ceter it over the hole or you could cut off the line up pins and just let it float but then they are only good for looks you could not tie off to them they would give. Both models though had the adjustable tie points had a nut type retainer you just loosened with your fingers and it slid back or fourth these were plastic and aluminum so they were only good for light loades or tying down a tarp. Both models came with molded plastic gaskets to protect the finish
