I need to pull a trashed e40d, out of a 1992 f250 7.3 4x4,and swap to a c6 trans code k from a 1989 f250 6.9.4x4
I have the complete 89 donor truck.
Have read so far that the drive shaft, shifter linkage for the tc will
have to come with the c6.
Can I use the cable shift on the 92 or will I have to contend
with that as well.
Any other problems with this swap?
This is just a yard truck
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance
My 95 came with a C6 from the factory, it is cable shifted. You may have to get the correct cable for the C6, but that should be way easier that trying to hook up shift linkage to the 1992 column-the shift tube does NOT go through the firewall. Your transfer case should hook up to the C6, but the transmissions are different lengths, so you may need different drivelines. The donor trucks may or may not work in the newer truck/transfer case.

No it didn't. The E4OD replaced the c6 in the late 80's. It you do have a c6, it ain't from the factory...

Yes it did. The trans code on the door sticker is G which according to my 1995 Ford factory service manual is the correct code for a C6. Furthermore my dad bought the truck out of the Ford Used Vehicle Program with only 9000 miles on it and exactly 10 months after initial delivery. I bought it from him. Ford continued to use the C6 in select vehicles through the 1996 model year.
Also, every place I check shows the E4OD as the REPLACEMENT for the C6 starting in '89. Maybe your truck is an anomaly. Trans code "K" is for a C6 as well...

The F250/350s were available with a C6 transmission well into the '90s. It was special order. My 1995 Ford Service Manual shows Transmission Code G as a C6.
The site info you referenced is not 100% accurate. I trust my Ford documentation a little more than those.

You have been given a lot of misinformation. First the E4OD actually came out in 1987 as the overdrive heavy duty transmission replacing the non overdrive C6. If you look at the spotters guide you qouted, you will see it does list the C6 until 96 or 97. As for your Bronco info, that is for 12 model years prior to what I was talking about, codes do change in 12 years time.
Now this is what I KNOW- my truck has been in my family since it was 10 months old with 9000 miles on it. I am sure that it has not had a transmission swapped into it. The door jamb sticker says it has a G code transmission. My genuine Ford factory service manual(not an aftermarket or CD copy) says that code G is for a C6. The service manual shows all the repair procedures for the C6 as well as the specs, mounting diagrams, etc.
From what my Dad was told when he bought the truck, many rental or other program trucks were ordered with the C6 because the early E4ODs were so problematic.
