Horn button

Can one of you guys show me or explain to me how the horn wiring/button all worked on a 52 F-7. I have the wiring schematics from the service manual but it appears they have left out the horn. I see the small wire coming out the bottom of the steering box.

I have pulled out the horn button and see that there are no other connections made anywhere.

I have installed a 12 volt new harness and need to figure out how to make all of this work and am curious how it originally worked. Thanks

These work entirely by a contact plate at the horn button that grounds the
wire down the tube through the steering box. This wire then goes to the
ground terminal on the horn relay. Then the horn wire runs to the relay and
the other terminal is batt +. Relay should be right side on the firewall.
Relays available at any store 6 & 12 vts. I dont know if yours is now 12vt
but It will work fine even with 6vt horn and relay but the horn will be
louder.

Horns and relays can and will fry if used extensively at twice their rated voltage.

The horn button should work the same 12v or 6v except they are connected to 12v relay or horns. as big job indicated it provides the ground to make the horn(s) blow when pressed. Actually the 6v horns and relay will work fine as long as you are not one of those that likes to toot his own horn a lot.

Below you will find a drawing from the Ford parts illustration manual. Make sure that you have all the parts. I have some extras if you need them.

I've got to get my horn working someday if I ever want the truck to pass the state inspection. I bought the wire and parts for the horn button but mine doesnt have a horn relay. I've seen pictures with the relay mounted under the voltage regulator and others have it mounted on the inner fender in front of the radiator. Any opinions on which is right?

Thanks, I do need the horn button for the F-7 if you have one. I called Dennis Carpenters and the one being re-manufactured only works for trucks up to F-6

Steering wheels and horn items are all the same for 48-52 F1-F8, COE and Panel. Just checked my parts catalogs. Part # 7RC-3627-C from the Nov 1954 catalog issue.

DC isn't always exactly correct on the application of a certain part. You'll be fine with ordering a horn button from them, even though they say it only goes up to an F6.

I have a couple of used instrument gauge assemblies. PM or email me if interested and I can look to see what I have left.

The steering wheel is listed as p/n 8T-3600. Horn button p/n is what I posted earlier.

Great info, thanks, I will call them and order the button than. I sent you a P.M on the gauges. I do not know if I did it correctly so my e-mail is jhason2@yahoo.com if that helps.
