im sick of the front of my truck sagging. ive been looking for new front coils for my 87 f150. every set that i find says it wont fit my options and ofcourse i got the most odball setup. i have 87 f150 300 i6 reg cab short bed 4x4 and dual shock set up. i cant find the springs that are right for it. does anybody know what ones i need or maybe a little stiffer ones so they dont wearout and compress as quick. i dont like the sag look very much. thanks
2wd F250 coils bolt right in. They give the truck a slightly firmer ride and lift the front end up approximately 1 1/2", which was enough for my scsb to clear 33x12.50s with zero rubbing
I was hoping not to put spacers in cause you still gotta take the coil out to do it though. With f250 springs wouldnt i still have to find them with at least the dual shock option
Springs do wear-out and sag. I wouldn't add a spacer to worn springs, they ahve lost spring rate. I also wouldn't go too stiff, but I like and have obtained a nice ride with my truck.
Have you checked NAPA? I'd go 117" wheelbase, "with A/C" for a stiffer spring 366lbs vs 337 without A/C. They also have a 423lb spring intended for a 138" wheelbase and probably too stiff for you rig.
Bronco Graveyard has a good leveling spring, 400lbs but that will require alignment. They are a bit stiffer than stock and you can feel the difference. I am running a set now but have ordered a custom made 4" 350lb spring. I suggest getting a set of Moog 4 degree "Adjustable" caster/camber bushings to take-in for a proper alignment if you go that route.
That's real helpful. Any F250 spring will fit but I see 366lb, 423lb, and 630lb spring for F250's.
If you shop the wrecking yard for F250 springs, better check the weight rating of the truck. If it's rated at 8,600 it likely comes with a very stiff 630lb spring. Can you say bone jarring ride?
My 91 F250 2wd rides very nice with the factory springs. You shouldn"t be dissapointed. It rides much better than my neighbors 99 F250 4x4 with the leaf springs
i did price through napa theyb were a little over $100. been trying ebay though for moog springs under ebay but none work with my options. i think napa will be my route if i cna t find on ebay. i have a freind that has a cousin that works there so he can get discounts so he said he order them and id just pay him. plus i gotta get a gaskit kit and and 4 shocks. there shocks are pretty reasonable at $25 a shock i dont think is bad. plus any deals over a 100 you get a free 5 gal pal.
A lot of people had said searching through old posts they were different. In what ways i have no idea they never said. I dont see how they would be different either and hopfuly there not
Looks like the only difference between springs would be the spring rate, as you found out. It seems like you need the 423lbs springs as a happy medium between "soft ride" and ride height. I've used springs from NAPA before and have had good luck.
