Thankfully we still have power. I think it has to do with the fact that practically all the power in Hot Springs Village is underground and the switch yard that powers the village taps the high voltage line that runs through the middle of the village.
Well, on the way home I think I may have finally blown the last of the snow off the truck. Pretty sure the guy in the Colorado behind me didn't like it. And to think, they're talking freezing rain/drizzle into the overnight. Hot dang, another fun commute to work in the morning. Better go plug the truck in again tonight...instant heat in the cab will spoil a fat guy like me real quick.

Our next house is going to have a standby generator. I just haven't decided if it's going to be natural gas or diesel. Diesel would be more efficient...but you've got to supply the fuel; where as natural gas is pretty much everywhere around here. I didn't realize you lived in the village...always though you lived out east of HS. There are some really nice homes up that way.
Standby generators are pretty expensive for a good sized one.. to run the heat pump I figured it would take about a 15kw minimum, about $3500 to $4000.. not to mention there isn't NG on our road to my knowledge. That leaves diesel or LP.
Did I mention something on the Washing machine burned up Christmas Eve? Yea, still don't know what happened there, but I presume it's the belt or something.
I guess I can't complain too much, It's been run pretty hard over the last 10yrs.

Hey Joe, if you could get a few neighbors interested I know where you can pick up a 150 Kw Kohler auto start with auto transfer switch for around $12.5K And low hours too.

Verry tempting after these past few days. The power came back on about 5:30 so we canceled the hotel reservation. It was 55 degrees in here when we finally got the heat cranked back up.

We moved here back in May. We were on the north side of Lake Ouachita. Since the housing market has been down we were able to by a lot cheaper than it would have been to build on our old property. Anyone interested in nearly 6 acres and a mobile home about a mile from Lake Ouachita?

If I ever get to build a big fancy shop like yours Joe...the stand-by generator is high on the hit list of "accessories" for the shop/house. Figure if I'm going to spend the money for one...mind as well spend the money to have one big enough to power both the house & shop. The last time we went without power for more than a hour or two we were dark for 2 days following an ice storm in '00. The chainsaw and '92 Explorer got quite the workout clearing trees out for a couple of days. That was also when I made the commitment that we'd always have NG in the house for heaters and the water heater.

Sounds like your end of the month has been as rough as my start to the month. Spent enough time on high powered antibiotics (spider bite) that I've killed all the "good bacteria" in my digestive track. Let's just say those drugs have not only cleared the bug bite up quite nicely...but cleared out my guts.

Now that's what any self respecting shop needs for those "just in case" moments When I was working nights for Riggs, the dock in LR was next to the stand-by generator for the complex. Seems like it was a 3412 (V-12) powered generator; no clue on the KW rating. Seems like that thing would go from shut down to full power in under 2 minutes? And when it came to life there was no missing the commotion. I don't remember the year ('99 or '00?) there had been some kind of heavy storm knock all the power out in the I30/University area. Everything was dark except the Riggs complex...and the cars/trucks on I30; strange site for sure.

No need for a mobile home...got a 31' man cave already; 6 acres...I'm interested; near Lake Ouachita...while I have nothing against the lake, a little too far of a commute to/from work for me.
