Multiple new problems

Background: AC serviced 3 months ago, head studs 2 months ago with new oil cooler and new thermostat at the same time. Truck has been loosing coolant lately, NOT through the degas cap for sure. Deltas have been a little higher than I would expect, usually 11-12 at the most. Yesterday again saw a pool of fluid under the truck. Apparently it is now low enough to affect cooling as deltas went as high as 31(!) on the way home this morning. Surprising to me is that ECT was not affected, only EOT, and it got to 224 at the highest. Also noted that the AC is not working. When I got home I filled the coolant up to the min line and the deltas dropped some, but only to the 15-20 range and the AC still won't work. Degas bottle pressures when full don't go over 8 and, after burping it, never above 1-2. Do the AC problems and the cooling problems go together? Any of this make sense in the face of all of the recent work?

Could your water pump be going bad and leaking?

Hmmm, good question. Water puddle is on the left side, toward the back of the engine compartment, and the u-joint of the front differential tends to be wet when I see a puddle. Sound right? Would that explain the AC problem?

Is your egr delete leaking?, i would look in the valley of the engine for coolant.

That area (left side being the drivers side) sounds more like it would be a crack in the degas bottle or a hose around the degas bottle.

That's what I think too, but can't seem to locate it. I'm also going to look at the EGR delete as mentioned above. I can't seem to fit the sudden loss of AC into all of this. I know it worked just a few days ago.

Im with you bismic. I was picturing the engine from the front........you have access to a pressure tester?. A good way to find leaks like that is to pressurize it and start looking.

Now that I filled it back up, the next drive will pressure it up to 8-9 with the cap on. That will likely get 'er spewing. I'm guessing y'all don't see the AC issue as being logically related?

A/C problems can happen with a lack of circulation of coolant.

Then I'd say that's it. I was surprised from day one post head studs, when despite a new oil cooler and thermostat, my deltas still were around 9-11 and occasionally briefly out to 13, despite no load. That's pretty much what it was doing with the old stuff. While that is within normal limits, it seems to me to further out towards abnormal than I would expect with all new stuff.

I feel confident that some degas bottle connection is lose or cracked. When the pressure comes back up, I should find it.

Update:

Even with adequate coolant in the degas bottle, deltas still get over 15 with easy (50 mph), unloaded driving. Still affecting only the EOT. ECT is normal (for my truck) at 192-196. After the degas bottle pressure got up to 9, there was coolant dripping off of the front u-joint and down the back of the bell housing. I can't pinpoint where it's coming from, but I suspect it is whichever hose that carries coolant to the oil cooler as it seems to be having a hard time getting cooled. Also, the AC still won't work, so I assume those 2 issues are off of the same hose, or at least one is down stream of the other. Back to the shop that did the head studs...

the hose that I was refurring to wraps around the back of motor and goes to the heater core, connections under the degus are plastic fittings ,did you pull the degus off and look real close also throw the ford clamps in recycle bin and get some real clamps on there , that hose is hard to see and there is a bolt right in the way I tyed mine back.Just a thought.

Good plan, it's just that I paid somebody to do the work right. If I start messing with it, I might get blamed for breaking something or causing some other problem. As it is now, I'm just a reporter telling him what happened. This SHOULD cost me nothing.
