I currently own two 1978 f-150 supercab 4x4's both have factory leaf sprung front end's , probably special order , i have been unable to find lift kits etc. for my truck does anyone have any info.
Two??? Figure the odds! For us skeptics, please post your data plate info and pics are always helpful. Let's see what what it was born with... also identify the axles and state the lug pattern.
All SC are long bed and 3in wide springs. They also share the same frames, F150, 250,350.The only things that make the F150 a half ton are the brakes, and springs. If you put a Dana 60 and 8lug front end under it, and changed the master cylinder over, and don't forget the springs, you would then have anF250. If you used heavier duty springs, you could have F350. The frames are the same.
The 4x4 F150 SC "Camper Special" and "Trailer Special" packages had the leaf sprung front ends similar to the F250 and were very desireable work trucks back in the day. You might want to consult NumberDummy on this, as he is the ultimate authority and more dependable than my foggy memory, but I seem to remember that a regular 4x4 SC w/o the above mentioned packages had the common coil sprung front end.
Not so sure about all of them being leaf sprung. I remember a carpenter I used to work with showing up on the job site with a brand new '77 F150 SC 4x4 with a 300-6 (it was a beautiful truck with a matching factory topper). It was not a Camper Special and was not a Trailer Special and am 99% sure it had coil springs up front. Anybody out there with specific knowlege or text to help out or debunk an old guy's memory?
I was pretty certain they were all leaf sprung, but i could be wrong, i'd look it up but i loaned out my parts catalog CD to a buddy, perhaps ND or Mike O will chime in and either confirm or deny.
