hello all, i am new to this site so i am not sure if this is the right forum to post this on, so please excuse me if i am wrong.i have a '79 f-150 super cab 4x4. it has a 9 in rear end and a dana 44 front.the thing i am wondering about is that my front end is a solid front end, meaning there are leaf springs instead of coils.everyone tells me this is odd for a half ton and that this was only available on a f-250 or bigger.i say it might have been a factory option.any info will help!! i dont want this to be a problem when i go to order lockers and what not.
Chmuraman,I have never seen a 79 leaf sprung front yet, that is not to say that someone may have ordered it that way.Does it look like it may be a spring conversion?Might be cool to have a one of a kind.

It is not unusual to have leaf springs in the front of your truck. The regular cab 1/2 ton 4x4's had coils sprung front ends. Supercab trucks all had leafs. Pre '78 1/2 ton Supercab 4x4's, though rare, had either leafs or coils because they were manufactured as 2wd's and then converted by authorized conversion companies.
hey everyone, thanks for the replies.as to the question about it being a conversion kit, i dont think it is.i dont see any signs of fabrication or any thing like that.but, like 76supercab2 stated, i have also heard that the supercabs were built on an f 250 frame.i just hope it doesnt become a problem when ordering aftermarket front end goodies.thanks for the info guys, i love this site!!
