hey guys, was about -2 today. fired up the ol girl, drove her 2km down the road to store, got out and see a nice puddle of coolant under her. pop the hood, i see coolant on both ends of upper rad hose, and the main source of the leak was where upper rad hose attaches to themostat housing. hoses dindt feel tight or anyhting.
shut it down after a few mins running and leaking, got bakc in the truck 5 minutes after, firedit up and no leaks. did a few more errands around town and no leaks again..
what could be causing this? new hoses, clamps on tight.
If water was between the rubber hose and neck, even if clamped down could it allow more water to squeeze past it?
before the coolant level was too high and would t let the cap open. And it did shoot past the clamp on upper hose ahere it attatched to upper rad tank. drained some coolant and everything was fine for 2 weeks. Im going to drain the coolant down some, take upp rad hose off clean everytbing nice with sandpaper and put it all back together. hope its something simple.
off topic: but when it gets cold its almost impossible to turn the ley on or off in the ignition terminal! Is it lubed with bacon grease?!
For the key comment, its not bacon grease... but you have the right idea, the old stuff gets real stiff when cold. You can take apart the steering column and clean it up and relube, theres a couple threads outlining that procedure. I have the same issue, but never think of it when its warm and I have the time ...
As for the coolant being too high, I don't understand what you mean. If the coolant is too high in the over flow reservoir, it will overflow and end up on the ground. It CAN"T be too high in the radiator. When the pressure increases, it opens the radiator cap and flows into the overflow. Later when it cools down, it will suck back into the radiator. I would test or replace your radiator cap and/or check to make sure the overflow hose isn't blocked off.
new cap (other cap was only 6months old), overflow is fine.
All these coolant problems started after i rebuilt the oil cooler.
But i have no idea why it leaked so much for a bit the compltely stopped
i had a little leak on my lower rad hose last week,on the rad side.something about the cold made her leak a bit i guess after a recent coolant flush.turned out the clamp just needed to be snugged up a bit more.sometimes it's easy fixes,sometimes.....not so much lol.good luck.
What is the pressure on the cap? Someone was having some trouble a few weeks ago and it had to do with a higher pressure cap than the original one. The new higher pressure cap came with a new radiator.
When things get real cold, they shrink a bit different than normal. My old Ranger seemed to have a small coolant leak at the side of the radiator, but only in the winter.
guess they weerent on as tight as i thought. used a ratchet on em and snugged em up much better. no leaks today.
however last week ive gotten a terrible audible vibration at idle.
only at idle as soonas it gets to 750 rpm it dissapears. very loud in the cab, cant hear it in engine bay. Something under the dash perhaps? Smashing my fist on the board didnt help much. Randomly one day it came, another it went away, but for last 4 days its been there alwyas at idle.
