was wondering if an intermittent ''wait to start'' light problem that has now completely disappeared could be caused by a faulty ignition switch??...It does not come on at all since this morning...controller is new 10000 miles or so ago...water in fuel light comes on when the key is turned like it should but no wait to start light...1989 F250...202,000 miles all original..5 speed...thanks for any advice.....oldgold
hello oldgold, I have the same problem... My truck doesn't start not sure if yours does... I found that if you run power to the glow plug soleniod it will click and show the wts light but it still won't start... I replaced my steering column and this start, but I also had blown some fusible links so idk...
(Does your glow plug soleniod have the constant power to it?)
this happened to me a couple times this summer...should've have fixed it then,huh??..cold weather sure brings out the weak points...Someone then suggested the ignition switch...but, it started after a bit of work from the starter in the warm weather but not now...It was starting real well when the glow plugs cycle...I haven't had time to check any voltage..it's going to be warm saturday so will try then...thanks for the advice...was taking the shroud of the steering column difficult??...I have been reading that the switch is on the column...reads like it might not be to hard to change once you get to it??...
My brother put the switch in for me... But I believe you just undo the bracket that is holding the column to the dash (I think two or four bolts). That drops the column and then you will see the ignition switch... It is probably an hour job at the most....
well it wasn't the ignition switch...put one in, nothing different...but, went online looking at a controller at NAPA...looking at the pics and noticed the ground wire...huh?...went and checked it, moved it a bit, light came on...cleaned it up, retightened and seems to be fine....should've known a ground somewhere might have been the problem...working fine and then suddenly stops...el stupido!!...Oh well, new ignition switch wasn't a bunch of money...old truck probably feels better now....anyway, thanks for the help....
