05 F250 6 spd - Programmer?

I have a 2005 F250 Diesel 6 speed Manual 4x4 Ext Cab with 89K on it. 100% stock and getting 15-17 Highway mpg. Mileage use is about to significantly increase in the next 6 months (graduating college, lots of traveling) and seeing what ya'll have to suggest for increasing MPGs. Just accept the 15-17 or can i do some tuning with a programmer/chip/etc?

Don't expect mileage with a tuner. You MIGHT gain a little if you keep your foot out of it. That's a big might though.
