I just got my 05 F250 XLT FX4 4X4 Crew Cab 4X4 with 169000 miles on it. It came with a Hypertech tuner, MaxEnergy I believe. I am just wondering thoughts on it and if I guy does use it, do you just use it when you are pulling or do you set it say to the 87 octane and leave it all the time?
I'm not really a fan of "off the shelf tuners" like the Hypertech. For one they lave a lot of power on the table and they also can cause detonation that can be almost impossible to get rid of without turning the truck back to stock. I learned the hard way. I run an SCT Xcal with 5 Star tunes. I have different tunes for towing and when I'm empty.
Thanks again for the input...I do have to tell you funny thing..when I started on this board, I was telling my wife about different things and I had my first post up that you replied to and she asked me what kind of site I was on...she didn't know it was the ford forum...she saw your avatar and thought I was talking to some chick...hahaha...
His avatar is VERY distracting! And like he said, the SCT with Mike's tunes make a world of difference. I had the Diablow with the canned tunes and the 5 Star tune is night and day difference.
You would have to contact him on current pricing. I think hes charging a little over $400 with shipping for an SCT Xcal3 with 3 custom tunes. He also sells the SCT Livewire which is more expensive. I prefer the Xcal line due to the fact they leave no hardware on the truck.
