Another idea would be to find an appropriately sized side marker light assembly. The new cars have them and some are wired to blink with the turn signal. The wires would pass through the preexisting holes in the door.
If you went that route I would get the Ford Factory Canadian style "mirror markers". They were required in Canada long before they were required in the U.S.
Jerry got his mirrors installed and sent me these pics to post for him. (Gotta show him how to do that next time I'm in that neck of the Arky woods.) Looking good, Jer!
They look good, but sorry I do not like them. They are no good for a "useful" truck. What I mean is the factory mirrors he took off may look ugly, but they are larger so you can see to back up and also they have room for one of the little spot mirrors to stick on.
Good for you if you like them, and they do look more streamlined and not so clunky, but think about what you use your truck for before you switch them out and find backing trailers and looking around loaded trailers to change lanes suddenly impossible.
I hope I was diplomatic enough. I know the saying "if you do not have anything good to say, don't say anything at all" but I wanted people to think about this before they did it.
I value Franklin's posts and opinions..AND..if I were really using the truck a lot..would probably not changed the mirrors. Since I have driven this truck 2000 miles in 4 years...and the most backing up is in and out of the garage..I think I'll stick with the Sports..I can change to the other "trucker" mirrors in 10 minutes..I'm about finished with the F-150...and just bought a Mercedes 450 SL roadster as a new project. Hope the boys on BenzWorld.org as as nice ..and as helpful... as the Ford crew...JV..
Where did you get the mirrors? Are they NOS, aftermarket or used? I need a new passenger side one for my 81 due to some idiod sideswipping my pickup (just the mirro and fender but I was pissed!). If anyone has one...please PM me, I can't seem to locate a set in any of our "yards".
