Okay so I just placed an order on my TS Performance 6 position chip, but after I ordered it I didn't really have an abundance of money but needed to get an EGT gauge. So I didn't have a lot to spend so I just bought an inexpensive one off eBay. Do y'all think it'll be okay if I have an idea of my EGTs and don't run it too hard? Or do I need to wait to install the chip until I get the money. (I feel like a kid in a candy shop and I don't think I can wait)
I think it would do for now. Like you said don't run it hard and keep an eye on it. Some chips can produce very high EGTs. I Would have gotten quality gauges first.
A decent set(of 3-4) from Glowshift are 2-400, depending on how many you get. For now avoid any prolonged hard runs. EGT's can peak without killing stuff, but try to avoid long pulls up hills, stuff like that. Don't charge up the ship channel bridge!
Any exhaust mods? Freeing up the flow helps lower egts.
Go play with it and have fun with your new investment! That's why you bought it right! Keep in mind your worried about heat soak not just egt! It takes a minute for it to absorbe the heat
I ran my tuner for a while with no egt gauge, just don't make the common mistake; low RPM does NOT equal low EGT, in fact many times it is opposite. You'll inderstand what I mean when you get a gauge and see it for yourself.
I've got a 4" MBRP Turboback on the truck. I went ahead and broke down and bought a higher quality gauge. But can anybody tell me how to wire this gauge up? I can't find anything about it. Thanks

No instructions? What brand? It should have a braided type wire, running to a fitting with a probe on the end, that goes into the manifold.
It's got all the wiring and everything for the exhaust manifold but I don't know how to wire up the wires for the lights on the gauge itself. I don't know what wires to tap for the constant and all of that.
Also, the tuner is coming in tomorrow night, but the gauges won't be in yet. Do you think it's okay to drive it for just a couple days without the gauge as long as I don't run it hard.
What brand of gauges did you get?
You will be fine without the gauges for a couple of days... mainly you will build high egt's when climbing a grade in OD at low RPM... I can pretty much mash on my pedal and not see over 1000* in my 140 tune. Just take it easy till the gauges go in though.
One thing with egt's is they sometimes heat up quick, but also drop as soon as I let off the throttle. And not like coasting but just feathering it a bit will drop the temps. Around here you shouldn't have a problem unless you really rag on it for a minute or so.
