2002 E-150, I just R&R'ed the instrument panel to fix the water leak into the cab from heater/evap housing cowl air inlet. I made a custom little manual for the task using Helm.com. Did it step by step. Starts and runs fine everything is working but the airbag light is blinking. I double checked the fuses and their location made sure all the harness plugs seated and all the grounds were conncted and tight. Followed the power up proceedure in the manual but blink blink blink. Any ideas? My freind has a low cost code reader but do the airbags codes go to the OBD2 port were this tool might read them? Any help would be appreciated as I need to get this work truck back to work. MY CVPI has developed the timing chain rattle over the past month while the truck has been down. Oh boy more fun!
Remembering the old OBD1 system that blinked codes when the diagnostic terminals were jumped I counted the blinks after the key up light turns off/out. It blinks four and then six times. So I am assuming ( and I use that term loosly) that it means code 46. See were this leads.
I never had much to do with the AirBag system, but on the newer Ford cars the AirBag light will start blinking when the main starting Battery is going bad, Might be worth a look...........or you could try unpluging the Battery for a few minutes and letting the Computer/AirBag reset itself.
Thanks for the suggestion although I had repeated the power down/up a couple times. I did a Goog search which led me to a thread here on FTE for code 46 and it is indicates a problem with the pretension-er circuit. (seat belt latch) for the seat belt. Well, when I conducted the first run test the seats were not installed so the seat belt latch was not in the circuit. I installed the seats and after following the power down/up steps. All is well. So for future reference the airbag lite dose blink codes on key up. I drove the truck around the block with one seat and the plug undone which caused the light to go solid but on key up it blinked the code again.
