My cousin wants a super duty. I found him an 04 CC SD with the 6.0 powerstroke. FULLY LOADED. has 150k mi. $14,500. Its clean. A guy he works with says the 6.0 is junk. Is this true?

It certainly isn't junk. The engine suffers from owners that don't understand the special requirements it takes to keep it on the road. Some of those requirements can cost more over the cost of say.....a 7.3L My father "bulletproofed" his right after buying it, and he has not had any problems. He didn't have any problems before either, but he is traveling the country towing a fifth wheel after retiring. He wasn't taking any chances, and my brother is a diesel mechanic. Only cost him parts for the EGR delete and other stuff. It is a VERY strong running monster when properly cared for.

It can be a good truck, but the price seems a bit on the high side.

Visit the 6.0L engine forum and read what the owners do to make the 6.0L Power Stroke a strong, reliable engine.

Honestly, living in iowa with winter quickly approaching and the truck having less than 200k its a good deal. I see some with 300k for 10-12....

I own 7.3L and 6.0L diesels and they're equally reliable. 2004 includes some refinements including relocation of the dreaded 2258 code fuel pressure sensor problem I've been having witn an early 2003 6.0L..

Mucho easier to fix on the 2004 than the 2003.

I have a 2006 6.0 and just did the bullet proof, cost me 2900 with a new injector and sct programmer, truck is a beast. And yes that is a good deal for 150k miles, mine had only had 73 and I paid 20. Just make site nothing is wrong with it, because things can get bad in a hurry.

Uneducated people will tell you the 6.0 is junk.

Make sure your cousin gets the truck checked over before purchasing it by getting an Oasis report and maintenance records of the truck.

Also read up in the 6.0 section of the forums and absorb all the knowledge you can about these motors.
