I've been fixing problems on my trucks for a long time now with all of your help and never really participated here for some reason. Now going in to my second winter of starting problems along with the new developement of lose of power, terrible mileage and having an oil faucet in my engin bay I finally fixed it all. I figured I would do it all at once to make life easy. I replaced all glow plugs after 6 tested bad, retorqued the rockers and injectors, installed intake plenum inserts and new riff raff I/C boots, new wicked wheel (had turbo stalling and surging), fixed the leaky hpop and did the .50 cent mod (pass. side was partially unplugged. After it was all put back together a couple days ago it runs like it did 5 years when I bought it. All the info on how-to, testing and parts that I have received just be reading here has helped a ton and saved me a lot of money. Thanks everyone.

Very-nice First Post!
This is a great group of guys and gals, who REALLY enjoy their trucks. We consider ourselves to be the luckiest of the Ford diesel pickup drivers, having the easiest-to-work-on, and most-reliable diesels (so far) ever installed.
Sure, they can be just ol'-reliable mules, having adequate power to get the job done, or they can be thoroughbreds running with lots of reserve under the hood. The beautiful part is that YOU get to make the choice of which.
We'd love to see your continued participation with snippets outlining your work with your truck.
Absolutely, that post sums up what FTE is all about for me. Saved thousands of dollars by now, plus you learn so much about what you've got and where you can go with it in terms of mods and fixing engineered-in vulnerabilities.
Just a few nights ago, going out to dinner with the missus, get on it a little and BOOM!, then very little power. "Oh don't worry hon, I read about this happening on FTE, just an intercooler boot. It's a 7/16" deep well." On the way to dinner a couple minutes later.
Non-FTE Alternative: "Uhhh, crap, let's call a tow truck" Night ruined. $$$ gone. Repair at dealer. More $$$ gone.

Yep... thanks to what I've learned here in FTE, I've not only saved money, but my wife even has increased HER vocabulary. She now can tell me what a HPOP is, that 6637 is NOT June 6 of 1937, that "boots" are not necessarily a clothing option, and a number of other terms as well.
Welcome to the fray! Congratulations on the fix! Do you have more plans for your truck other than just enjoying it as it is?
I may eventually do more. I pretty much spend all my play money on a jeep grand cherokee that I have. I need to get exhaust and gauges soon. It has some type of tune in it now but I don't know what it is. It runs good and the tune makes the tranny shift great but one of these days I'll get it flashed and get a DP or BTS tuner. I have the 6637 air filter already. Its a crew cab long bed with a 6.5" lift with 37's. It needs a little love, It's been on too many elk hunts on these crappy arizona dirt roads.

That's awesome. My wife just looks at me and rolls her eyes and says what is that???? And why do you say we NEED it
Great post, Woodsd79. This forum has helped me save AND spend a lot of money. My wife is constantly rolling her eyes and commenting on money spent on this and that...just like everyone else's wives I see. But the reward is a vehicle that runs like the day it was driven off the lot.
Yeah X3 on that one, even though a pair of shoes shows up at least once a week and I don't say a thing...gonna need another long bed soon just for the shoes when we go "camping".
I am one lucky dog. My wife loves riding in Stinky and she takes no issue with spending what is needed to increase comfort, reliability, and power (it's safer to pass fast on a two-lane road). Sell the safety aspect, guys! Either that, or do something to the truck that she likes... to go along with the shiny boots.

Safer to pass fast! I love it. I'm using that one. Thanks Tugly!
I figure she gets new leather boots, I get new intercooler/plenum boots. If that's not fair I don't know what is.
I agree and can't say enough how much FTE has helped me. I learned more, have become more independent and of course, saved a LOT of money and time! THANKS FTE!
I'll join the choir! I had an idi and there were a good group that kept me busy, but, this power stroke is a whole new beast! So much more sophisticated and soo much more powerful! I would have been in a bad position without fte. Ignorant and dependent upon paid professionals for maintenance...not a good place to be with a diesel. Well, I just can't afford to pay for the kind of work I wanted done on this truck. Ball joints, tie rod ends, hutch/harpoon, inline fuel filter, egt guage, trany temp guage, aux tranny cooler, 50c mod, jwvb, 4" turbo back, riff faff i/c boots and plenum inserts, new brakes, rotors, brake lines, flush brake fluid, bdp chip, fix passenger lock motor, rebuild fuel filter housing, remove, clean and reinstall ebpv, install 6637,all new coolant/heater hoses, thermostat and housing, elc coolant, fan belt, headlights, heater cut-off valve, air bags with compressor, shocks/steering damper, 1100w inverter, batteries, lube clunky drive shaft...can you imagine what all that would have cost to have done? Not something I could have afforded! So, now I have a truck I am fairly familiar with that runs better than I would have ever thought an almost 7000 lb vehicle could run at an almost affordable price! All thanks to the help and information on this sight. I can never thank y'all enough...I'll just have to try to pass on the little I've retained from my experience. I'm retired and on a fixed income...who'd of thought Dr's and Dentists incomes weren't fixeder...so I must be as economical as possible. I'm pretty cheap anyway...hate to pay for something I could do with a little info. This hits the spot.
