2008, 250, SD, XLT, EX cab. Single Disc CD player...Inserted a home brewed CD. It didnt like it. It wouldnt eject. I was able to insert another CD in far enough to wedge the first one out. Now it wont load a store bought CD. Pulled fuse waited 5 min...no luck. All I see here is the 6 Dics player problems not the single disc players.
Any advice? Im going to pull the unit tomorrow to see whats up and if it has the ribbon wire harness I read about that older trucks have.
Yes, then tossed a 3" open-end and a 48" pipe wrench at it while cussing and then threatened the plasma cutter but to no avail. Time for the .44MAG! Everything can be solved with the proper amount of explosives!
Im actually in the garage with it now. I have it apart and I dont see anything wrong. It must be in one of the PCBs? Patience is long gone.
Remember the good old days when the kids could stuff a PB&J sandwhich in the Beta/VHS recorder... once removed and cleaned it would play no prob. This hunk of ***** cant handle the wrong CD and it breaks! Way to go R&D & quality control teams! I mean CD players have only been around for 30 years hardly enough time to get it right. Glad I didnt pay extra for the 6 disc player!
Reminds me of auto casette players. They worked for about 2-3 years if your were lucky then JUNK! Everything old is new again.
Guess Ill either run the ipod through it or replace it with a real head unit...yeaaay! more money....sigh
I had the same problem with my 6 disk changer in my truck and the single disk in my escape. There is a very small gear that runs the wheel for ejecting the CD and they break easily. I called the dealer and they wanted 650 for a replacement unit then found the company in Irvine CA that does the refurbishing for Ford. They want 375 and it can be any model you want, 6 disk, single, or single and Sat ready (though you still have to get the Ford sat kit which is 300 bucks). I went to Amazon and got a Pioneer single disk that plays DVD’s with XM and a backup camera for 275 to my door and installed it in a day. It looks like a factory set up (fit and finish) and I can play movies for the kids with plug in monitors in the back, There is a switch you can put it to trick the stereo into thinking the car is in park so you can play while driving but there is also a button to turn off the monitor and that’s what I do while the kids are watching. I don’t need to be watching movies while I supposed to be watching the road. Either way the only way to fix it is to replace the unit you have. They don’t sell parts for the head unit. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Sufdaddy,Thanks for the info. Ya that appears to be the problem when I dug inside it. Looks like its time to break out the .44 Mag and put a few more holes in it, out of the dash of course??? Hey at least its good for something! Time to add a head unit to the xmas list.
When I bought my 2009 a month or so ago, it had a 6 CD changer in it. Turns out this is NOT the unit Ford sold it with, as the 6CD came out of a 2008 (checked the serial #). I couldn't get it to accept a CD, and when I pulled it from the dash I found it had died with several CDs in it. I thought someone might want the faceplate or to use it just for a radio, but no takers so far.
I went to Crutchfield and bought something that does everything I want. Easy install and fantastic tech support.
Need to remember to bring CDs on my next test drive so I find this before I buy it!
Surfdaddy and SC_Hoaty....Do you guys have some model numbers of these units? I too will end up at Crutchfields. I like higher end stuff. Most likely need to upgrade the speakers as well.
You probably want something fancier than what I bought, then. I wanted something basic, that had front Aux input and took USB also. I don't care about graphic diplays or other toys like that. I ended up with a Sony CDX-GT56UI CD Receiver. So far I am very happy with it.
I thought I needed the PAC CR2 FRD1 interface adapter to make the Sony play nice with the CAN bus. However, since my truck was originally equipped with just an AM/FM radio, it had the harness that does not tie to the CAN bus. Tech Support helped me with this, and the return/exchange could not have been smoother.
Thats about what Im looking for I dont need all the bells and whistles just some durability.
The one I got had good reviews from others, but of course, since models change so frequently, that doesn't really tell you much about durability. No one has owned this model 5 years, yet.
So I look for a brand that I trust. Sony has been pretty good to me, so they still have good marks in my book. There are other good ones out there - but this one hit the features I wanted, a brand I trusted, and was the lowest price (because my mother's father was born in Scotland!)
You might also want to search the forum for some information on the single CD radio. I remember a thread a while back about using Ford car radios in place of the radio that came with the truck. I want to say the radio was out of an Escort, but I could be mistaken. If I recall correctly, the radio looks the same and the wiring harness is the same, but the car radio gave you an external input jack.
