Guys Y'all are going to shoot me in the foot and i feel like a real idiot. I have relied on FTE for the past 6 + years always being lead in the right direction and always had a positive result in maintenance and trouble shooting with my Truck. I always do my research before i dive into a project even if its something simple or i have done before just for reassurance of doing it correctly or to find a new way to do something i had done better and easier.
With that being said i failed in one major area. I have been doing my own oil changes since 2006 when i got my truck. Like clock work every 5k mi and not fudging at all. Every 5k new oil and filter and fuel filter "probably over kill on the fuel filter but oh well "
Sooooo i came across a thread saying not to use FRAM Filters OOPS ! It didn't say why but it said not to use them and NOT TO USE THEM. Well thats all I've used in the past 120k or more changing every 5k like i stated. SO.......
1. Why should i not use them " Just curious"
2. Have i hurt anything ?
3. What should i use ? Motorcraft is good but i normally get all my oil at wal-mart and i don't think they have Motorcraft filters there.
Really Motorcraft at wally ? wow i never would have thought. I will have to look when i go. The Motorcraft # is 1995 right
yes filters at wally fuel filter yes air filters yes oil yes power steering yes all the other crap yes gear oil yes BUT NO TRANS FLUID WTF i was looking today for some mercon trans fluid and i could not find any. is it just my store guys?

1.) As it was stated above, they're not as well constructed as most filters. Fewer pleats, in other words, less filtration surface. Use of plastic inside the cannister, as opposed to metal construction.
2.) An oil analysis will tell you how the inside of the engine is doing.

Not sure, but I have never found Merc V at the one closest to me.
I think your ok because of your frequent oil changes .. The big thing with fram is less pletes and when it is used and not changed frequently they are know to break down inside and the paper plete pieces can go in to the oil journals.
i've used fram also, never thought much about it. thought they were a big name brand.
just picked up a couple mobile 1 filters got em on sale for 17 bucks for both. how do they rank in the standings.
