Hey y'all I'm getting the ole " What do you want for Christmas" from Mom, Dad, Wife, Inlaws etc. Id real like some goodies for the truck. But what to get IDK.
I need some help. I want to get somethings to help the longevity, smooth running, reliability, and performance. So what should i ask for thats reasonable? heres what i got in a list already done to the truck some are in my sig and some are in the list.
*aem bruit force intake
*MBRP Turbo back
*6.0 trans Cooler
*Edge EVO Programmer w/ Attitude Digital Moniter
* Just rebuilt fuel Bowl
*IC Boots From Clay
*CCV Mod
*Just got parts for Coolant Filter
*Wicked Wheel
I have 230k as of 3 days ago. Truck runs great but i think it could be way better. Im looking to reduce engine crackle, Get better power and good reliability.
SO heres what i was looking into....
1. Bellowed up pipes "mine do not appear to be leaking, i checked the foil on the fire wall for soot and also looked with a small mirror and couldn't see any signs of leakage"
2. DP Tuner " Looking at getting a F5 which on Jodys site was ob $150. Whats the difference in the F5 and his others ? I want to stop using the edge tunes I've been using since 06 and run some of Jodys Legendary tunes which have got to be way better than the edge stuff. So which tuner and Tunes? " I will keep the edge on stock with the monitor plugged up to the obdII port for gauges.
3. Hutch Mod Kit " I feel much safer ordering a kit than building one. Where should i get the kit that includes all i need not having to hunt down things to make a kit work ?
Just a few things I've been thinking of asking for. I am open to opinions on the above and other goodies that might be good also.
3. Hutch mod kits: the one I used was from Strictly Diesel. Don't forget to do the harpoon mod while you are in there. There's a good chance your pickup umbrella will be perished so unless you want to replace it with a length of hose like I did order a new one from dieselorings.
Since you want to reduce the cackle maybe look into an high pressure oil crossover (HPX) and also a regulated return or FRX.
Thanks Travis I will look at the kit. After reading up on the hutch mod it was talking about in line filters and pre pumps and such. Dose this come with the kit or do i need to build it or are they even needed ?
Take a look at the kit on their site and read through the install instructions. It replaces some components on the pickup and deletes the screens. Includes a ~20 micron baldwin filter and base that mounts on the frame pre-pump.
HPX is a tube that connects the two oil rails, sensor measures from one side only. You can read more about it on the product pages at riffraff, dieselsite, and strictly diesel.
FRX is a riffraff product and is sometimes known as the poor man's regulated return. I've had both 1st and 2nd generation FRXs and they do work well, eliminates deadhead and gives the air a path back to the tank. A full regulated return is nice if you can afford it, read about that on Strictly Diesel or dieselsite as well. Dieselsite's regulated return is called CPR and it includes the in-tank (hutch) parts.
Wicked Wheel is for surge... do you have that? It lowers boost and it's loud. Ford AIS intake is expensive up front, but it lasts a long time between changeouts and it's nice and quiet in the cab... turbo drone can get old.

I do have the wicked wheel, i got it back in 06 when i bought the truck to eliminate the surge i had while pulling. At this point i didn't know about FTE. Other wise i would have done a few things different.
I didn't notice much difference in sound but boost... yea think i lost 1.5lb

Just Reviewed the kit..... Nice i like and for a decent price also. Now just checkin but the purpose of the balwin pre filter is....... am i eliminating the plastic foot or removing the screens in the chamber.
And the info on Lines is very helpful. On the 1st Gen and 2nd gen why did u have both ? did one go out or is one better than the other.
Forgive my lack of intelligence but ones got to learn and i hate burning money to learn LOL

The kit eliminates the screens in the fuel pickup but they intend for you to reuse the foot. Mine was not reusable so I used a piece of the fuel line that came with the kit to replace it. That has worked fine for 2+ years but using a foot would reduce the chance of some debris clogging the fuel inlet at the bottom of the tank. The filter performs the same function as the deleted screens which is to remove course debris before it gets to the pump. The filter also has a water separator with a drain so if you keep the stock fuel bowl you will have two drainable water separators.
When riffraff released the 2nd gen FRX they had a very generous upgrade program so I took advantage of that. I had various fuel pressure issues unrelated to the FRX so eventually I threw in the towel and switched to Strictly's regulated return with bowl delete which I am very pleased with. Sold the FRX to another FTE member.
Based on my experiences and regardless of what you go with I'd recommend installing a fuel pressure gauge before you do any mods to the fuel system so you can see where you are and the effect of your mods.
Awesome Travis thats great info, One last thing. Would you recommend a helper pump or lift pump like guzzle did ? Just curious if u had any trouble with pumps going out.

I have not had issues with pumps. Thought my stocker was going out so replaced with a walbro and cut stocker open but it looked OK and replacement did not resolve my issue. I don't have any experience with the lifter/helper pump but personally I do not see a need for it. I'd leaving your stock pump in place and maybe keep a spare in the truck (good price from riffraff). I'm currently running a high mileage used stock pump that Clay sent me and have no problems. As stated I've had no pump failure but from what I gather they typically work or don't rather than gradually fail.

Right Very true, when mine went out it gave me about 3min of running funny until it failed.
Once again thanks for alllllll the info on the kit.
You're welcome, glad to help. Regarding tuning I'll just say this: I've had DP and PHP and between those prefer the PHP calibrations. Additionally I urge you to take a look at PHP's new Hydra product with which you get access to ALL their tunes for your truck and can also purchase and run emailed tunes from some other tuners.
