6.0 woes

I have a 2005 F250. Purchased new. Less than 73000. Completely stock truck. Just started using/losing coolant. Have only added less than 1/2 gal. of coolant.
(have had to top it off twice in two months time)
I have been researching the problems with the 6.0 for a few years now. I'm one of those "If it aint broke don't fix it" guys.
So now that it's broke my questions are. Do I bring it to the dealer and throw a fit? Have the lawsuits done anything for the consumer as far as compensation? (Ford made out quite well)
Or should I just bring it to an independent shop and get the mods done?
I live in California so any modification done will have to comply.

might just be a simple leak

the seam on the coolant bottle can crack leak

pull the EGR Valve check for coolant there

the more you know about it will help keep the shop in line and avoid throwing parts

Doing own work would save ya labor

a Gauge is a must especialy since out warrenty now and you cover the bill
The Faster you catch a problem the cheaper it will be

Most of us use a Gauge via OBDII Port when you can see it coming gives time for a Game Plan and avoid being stuck
