AE hookup problem, wtf???
Hi,
I have been using AE for the last four years with zero problems on my Sony laptop. Today, I decide to hook it up to the truck (after not using it for about a year) to give it a general health check...here is what I have:
e99 F-350, 7.3l
Sony laptop running Windows Xp pro
AE Scantool V 9.1.1
Here are the settings I have in Scantool (communications):
USB or manually set serial port
Vehicle interface type: J1850PWM
Initialization type: Non-OBDII
FastMode NOT selected
HeartBeat NOT selected
Cigarette lighter has power, so I assume OBD port has power.
When I hook the dongle up to the laptop, the laptop sees it. When I try to connect to Scantool (either manually or set the option to automatically connect at start up) it scans for the dongle across ports, but never finds it. I have tried to connect at least 20 times with the KOEO and have had no luck. Can anyone cut this old guy some slack and point me in the right direction?
Oh and I remember I use to be able to set the vehicle parameters (1999, Ford, Powerstroke 7.3) but now that option is grayed out.

Change made to Communications:
Initialization Type: OBDII Compliant
Still doesn't see the OBD port...Does anyone know what pin on the port supplies DC voltage? Found it...Pin #16 is battery +

speaking of obd2 and ae does the ae software use just any obd2 usb cord or does it have to be a certain kind of plug to make the program work? thanks

okay cause a friend found a old copy of his ae scanner but no cable and i was wondering if i could just buy a cable untill he gets his back i was just wondering..

My understanding reading up on the thing b4 buying mine, was that the cord was the real expense of the thing and that it was not sold separately?
