ECU identifying and 'will it work?'

Hey fellas, I'm REALLY out of my element on EFI stuff, and I've searched the heck out of this, and am coming up confused.

The guy that sold me the 5.0 and AOD with harness and what-not seemed to be a wealth of information. Unfortunately, I've lost his contact info. I'd imagine he collected the 'right parts'... but I'm not sure on the ECU.

The one I have is marked:

E7TF-12A650-BF1A

to the left of those numbers is: EFI-SD22A, and to the right, and above the 'BF1A' is a larger set of letters that simply reads: 'HF'

I'm not sure even which set of numbers I'm supposed to source to distinguish which car this computer came from.
I've found a couple hits on the BF1A portion that is being listed on Ebay as a Ranger 2.9 computer. Is that what I have?

And will it work at all with my 5.0? will it just affect the idle like I'm reading about wrong-V8 computers?

If it will get the engine running, I will likely hold off on buying the right computer, as it's taken me forever to get the courage up at all to LOOK at this EFI stuff.

But I also wanted to know the type of trans because I'm supposed to loop either the auto-trans connectors, or the manual trans connectors while wiring this EFI harness.

Thanks!!
Mike

EDIT: the label on this ad looks identical as mine except the stamped ink number on the upper left. All the other numbers are the same as mine.

Ok, another question that I need to piggy-back on...

It appears most of the components I have are 1987 parts. There was definitely some parts swapping though.
Am I correct that 1987 should be speed density? It would appear that my aftermarket wiring harness spells out MAF on the wiring. So does that mean that I must get a computer from a 1988-93 regardless? And a similar MAF unit?

I was given the intake hoses and filter box, but I saw nothing of a sensor in the bunch.. so I assumed the 'MAF' had been left out.

So would my easiest resolution here be to buy an 1988 5.0 computer and related MAF? It wont make a difference to the engine right?.. or anything else?

Thanks again!

There were no MAF cars until 1989 so I don't see how the parts you have could be for one, the E7TF code on the EEC is for 1987 and the fact you have no MAF meter with the intake tubing would seem to confirm it. And yes you need to use a MAF computer with your aftermarket MAF harness since an SD computer has no input for a MAF meter nor does it have the 8 individual drive circuits for sequential injection which all MAF V8 motors use.

OK, so I guess the ECU question is null and void as it's worthless. (well, maybe I can use it for a core-charge) So I'll need a MAF sensor and a computer off an 89 or so right?

Any special consideration to mounting the MAF? I'll have to find some sort of tubing to plumb the intake and MAF setup it looks.

Thank you for the help!
