Starting issues
I have an 88 f150 thats been acting up when starting. Sometimes it will crank up no problem, and others it makes about a half second try and then nothing. It always jumps off fine though. Went to advance today and found out the following:
battery test- 12.75v 487 cca
alt test- no load 14.32v loaded 14.24 v
starter test- 8.38v and didnt start
All the cables looked okay. Think it could be the starter?

I tried replacing the starter today and got it hooked up fine and went to crank it up and its just spinning. Its not engaging the motor at all. We compared it to the original starter and it appears identical. The starter was all the way in as far as no flange sticking out. Any thoughts?

Yea they didn't look bad, and there haven't been any similar issues with the old starter spinning without catching either. Should I try putting the old one back on now and see if it does the same? Even though it wouldn't consistently start the truck, it might show if the new issue is starter or flywheel.
