I am using bully dog and i set my tranny to shift in specific rpm ranges and it feels firm and quicker then stock programming

Here in Germany the speed in town is max 50km/h (31miles/h).
When i drive exactly that speed the transmission shifts always up and down.

So i bought an B&M Shift Improver Kit.
It contains 2 Setups
-Stage 1 RV & Heavy Duty
-Stage 2: Street & Strip

An Econoline is no Race Car, so I've put in Stage 1

At first it didn't shift up anymore.
I forgot to put a Spring back in position, the next test drive same thing but this time it was a sticking valve

On the last test drive it shifted up at 3000rpm.
Seemed it was not enough oil in it.

Today i put in another quart, but the license is not valid until april
But it seems i overfilled the tranny, but it can be a rest in the filling tube.

I shifted into every gear positions and noticed that sometimes shifting between P and R a harsch klonk appears.
And in every gear i can let the brake loose and the car rolls exept in "1"

In this Gear it is driving like with pulled parking brake.
If you let off the gas, the Van stops immediatly
And drives off slowly only above 1300rpm.

The setting of the TV cable is OK

I'm running out of ideas what can be wrong.

Now it's "One Ring to ...... drive me nuts"

Luckaly I found an exploded view of the AOD - that makes explanation easier.

I Have a retaining Ring left, that seems nowhere to fit.

It is a bit smaller than Ring #56 (the one with the bent tips), but way bigger than #84, 75, 37, 32 and 51 - Which are all in place.

It has about the size of the reverse band (#63), but there is no place for a ring.

I went through the packaging List of the Master Repair Kit in hope that I replaced it with a new one -> also wrong.

It's like the ring doesn't belong in the Transmission, but where does it come from?

I'm afraid that there is something not drawn in this picture.

That is a factory assembly aid.
It lies against the back of the case and the rear band rests on it. For proper positioning of the band in relation to the servo pin.

Thanks for the Info.

I just went down and putted it in Place, but still doesn't look right to me (just a feeling).

Sure, it doesn't go in Front of the Reverse Band?

aaaaah... I think I just believe your words and put it back together.
The Ring fits there, but with a strange feeling beacuse there is no groove in the Case on that point.

It does not use or have a groove.

It is only an assembly aid.

In the large picture 2 items are listed as #56.
1 is a bearing the other a centre support snap ring.
The ring he is talking about resides at the rear of the case followed by the band, and is used as an assembly aid only.

OK, I will take the images down then to avoid confusion.

I have the transmission back in - and nothing has changed.

No upshift below 4000rpm.
And I think the upshift is forced by the governor.

I took the valvebody out again and found a little piece of old gasket in one hole of the seperator plate.
The valves were all moveable.

But that doesn't fix the problem.

And I have a new Problem:
In Position "P" the Tranny buzzes.
At first I thought the Fuel pump is dying - but when I shift into any other position it stoppes.

Meanwhile I think the "B&M Shift Improver Kit" sucks.

I would take it out, but one step of the Installation is to widen some holes in the Seperator plate.
So i ordered a "Superior AOD Posi Shift kit" from "Oregon Perfromance Transmission".
Which is just a "special designed" Seperator Plate.

And to be sure, I ordered a new Boost Valve an Throttle Valve.

I am starting to despair.

Now I replaced the "B&M Shift Improver Kit" with a "Fairbanks Posi Shift Kit"

First thing that bothered me: I had to drill holes in the new Seperator Plate to match my old one - but I can tolerate that.

I got my spare parts from "Oregon Performance Transmission" - and something has been screwed up.
I ordered a "Large Ratio Boost Valve" and got a "End Plug Kit"

The Item No. on the Bill is the same as on the bag with the Plug Kit inside.
But on the Bag stands "End Plug Kit".

And to top everything: Inside the sealed bag was a paper with Install Instructions for the Boost Valve

So I thought "Nevermind" and replaced the two end Plugs, that fitted -> because this kit is for 83-earlier and not for my '89 AOD...

I replaced the B&M Springs with the stock springs again and saw that the red color coating of the B&M "outer boost valve retaining spring" was peeling off.

And it seemed that i made a mistake after i took the boost valve mechanism out.
I installed apparently the seat of the booster valve retaining springs the other way around, so the spring had too much tension.

That might have caused the buzzing noise - that is gone now

But everything else has not changed

There's no upshift until 35-40 mph in Position "OD"
And in Position "D" it shifted up once at around 20mph - and then not again.
