I have a 1965 F250 4x4 352 engine.. The truck was running when I got it. I am putting it back together after a few years of body work etc. I took an extensive amount of pictures prior to disasssembly. I am in the process of wiring in the starter selenoid. Looking at the pictures of the way it was wired previously ... is confusing me. I think it was wired backwards. I think the battery was connected to the starter post and the starter was connected to the battery post. Here is a picture. The red battery cable is heading towards the drivers side of the truck because they had the battery cut into the drivers inner fender ( since removed and restored). Please help!![/IMG]
It does not matter whether the starter cable is on the left or right big post of the solenoid despite any label that may be on your particular brand of solenoid. Current only flows from one large post to the other large post when the ignition switch is in the start position. Starter cable to one large post; alternator, + battery lead, accesories to the other.
Sorry, not an authority on auto electrical issues, came aware of the variations to the Amp meter circuit when I decided to add the gauge to my 65. Not clear to me where the wires in your pic's are connected. As I mentioned, there are a couple different examples in the Ford pickup electrical manual, I went with a variation to those. Word of caution, make sure do some research, don't want to experience an elecrical fire.
Dave,
What a beautiful source of information you have shared with me!!.. I am going to study this , but I am pretty sure that I am going to rewire the truck the exact way I took it apart..and i believe It is pictured in one of your diagrams.. Everything worked on the truck.. Lastly..where did you find those plug wire seperators?.. what a nice clean power plant!! Thanks again for helping me!
Happen to have a bench buffer and the 'bling' are used components purchased off ebay. Bought the plug separators many many yrs. ago from Summit Racing, have seen them cheaper, might want to check ebay, or amazon? They also come with just the separators without the piece that attaches to the V cover. Hopefully the pic's will be of some help. Apprciate comments!!
