Exhaust splatter?

Why would my exaust be spitting out little droplets of stuff? I assume its condensation but what causes that?

Warm air through a cold pipe. It's like a cold beer on a warm day except inside out.

dont think it really causes any problems. most cars and truck mufflers have weep holes built into them because of condensation. if u ever look at a vehicle sitting at a stop light, u'll see droplets of water comming from its muffler when its cold out

if water builds up it will rust through and make its own weep holes. :-)

stainless won't rust so I wouldn't worry about it. The heat from the exhaust will tend to evaporate any water that gets built up. Its mostly a cold start thing anyway.

Frequent short run times tends to rust out exhaust systems because there's not enough heat or duration to completely evaporate the internal condensation.

Stainless? You're good to go.

Depends what grade stainless the system is. A 300 series stainless will not rust at all unless it is of inferior quality. The 400 series will rust and rust through if given enough time. Most OEM use a 400 series stainless exhaust and if you are in the rust belt you can be looking at a new system in less than 10 years depending on how you drive.

Some of the newer cars will hold a lot of water and literally flow out of tailpipe when they take off. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thats not true... I can't tell you that I've EVER seen an oem stainless exhaust. the vast majority (99.9%) of all oem exhaust are simply aluminized mild steel. Aluminized steel is cheap but does rust eventually.
