Hey fella! New here and I already have a question. My dad just bought a 97 F150. Really nice truck for 7000. We were just wondering if the 5.4 is a good motor. It has 102,000 miles on it and runs like a dream. How long do these engines hold up? What do you think about this motor? Thanks!

Mine runs great. Plenty of power to tow or whatever. They should go at least 200,000 mile I would hope. The way these newer engines are built with tighter tolerances, they should take longer to wear out. Plus with overdrive, the engines turn less rpm than in the old days so that also means less wear.

I also have a 97 but with the 4.6 and it's been very reliable. It's just shy of 149k miles and still runs as smooth as the day I bought it. Only one tuneup in more than six years of ownership. Only replaced an egr valve. With proper maintenance your 5.4 should last you a long time. Good luck and keep on truckin.
