Had a very cold morning and decided to use my remote start for the first time on my new 2012 to remove some frost. The truck started right away. Some 20 minutes later when I went out to my truck and it was not running. It seems to have stopped due a time limit. Does the remote start have a time limit that it will run without someone entering the truck and inserting the key???

You can go into the information screen and adjust the duration of run time for remote starts. I think it is in the settings category.
It can be adjusted to 5, 10 or 15 minutes with 15 being the max allowed. You can also force a remote restart twice before the system will no longer respond without using the key in the ignition.
I thought the remote start was really nice when I first got my truck. Reality is, I never use it. I still start up with the key, then walk around the truck/trailer to check things out, grab a cup of coffee, set the GPS nav, get settled in for my day in the seat.
When I am up north and in the frigid cold I will use it occasionally but certainly could live without it.
yeah, I use the crap out of my remote start. I just don't have patience and I don't like getting in and going. I like to give it a bit to get the fluids pumping a little bit.
I use the auto start all the time - first vehicle to have it - awesome feature
Regarding the warm up - the truck warms up better when running- ie in motion
I have let it run for a full 15 minutes with no appreciable heat in cabin
What I do now is when I get done walking the dog I fire up the truck - go in gather my things and then take off - usually in the house no more than 5 or 8 minutes
This lets the fluids circulate - as I am driving after that the truck warms up fairly rapidly - I don't have the rapid heat option
You may just want to consider a shorter idle time and quicker drive time
The few times I have not been able to manage my regens occuring (and completing) on the highway (monitoring via Edge Insight) and the truck is in regen when I need to shut it down I will get out of the truck and then remote start it so it can idle for five minutes (how mine is set). I have only done this twice, but the EGT4 was at the 800 degree range. When I later returned to the truck (several hours later) the soot level had significantly dropped upon re-start.
I know the regen stops (injecting fuel on exhaust stroke) in park; but once all the process is in motion and the fuel has been spent $$ to generate heat in the DOC I want to get what I can out of it cleaning the DPF. Plus, I prefer the exhaust to cool down controlled vs. just turning it off (engine is great air-pump); I believe this is less stress to the DPF.

Remote start running while the high idle mod is activated produces heat nicely.
I almost always use RS for the first start of the day. I currently have it set for 5 min...but think of going 10 min for the winter months. It really is an awesome feature!

I've tried both and watched the oil and the coolant temps. It makes very little difference to idle 5 minutes at 700 rpm or 1000 rpm The difference in the coolant and oil temps is very small.
What does make a difference is to start driving and get some turbo boost. Your egts climb and the coolant temp climbs 3 or 4 times as fast as either idle speed. And by driving, I don't mean romping on it. just drive thru your neighborhood surface streets at 25-35 mph. 5 minutes of this kind of driving and your coolant temps will be double what they would have been just sitting and idling.
