I have 1976 F-150 - 460 engine. Stamped timing order on the intake is 15426378. Using this timing order, the truck backfires through carb.
Distributor rotation is counterclockwise and the cylinder numbering I use is 1-4 on passenger side 5-8 on drivers. I have set the order at 15437268 and it runs fine...Any ideas??
Mil1ion....Not to be cute....but he did say the firing order was on the intake manifold of his motor????
I would suggest you rotate the crankshaft around to the timing marks line up....you may need to rotate it one more turn to get the pointer to point at #1....or where #1 is actually located....then check to see if that is actually #1 plug wire. Someone in the past may have pulled the distributor out of the motor and not put it back so the pointer aligns with the #1 on the distributor cap.
This may be a stupid question, but I thought that cylinders were even banks and odd banks. IE Driver side was 1, 3, 5, and 7 and the passenger side was 2, 4, 6, 8.
Am I wrong on this?
I can't picture it in my head, but going 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 etc around the motor doesn't make much sense either.
Nevermind, I got confused.
