Well my 2000 Eddie Bauer with the 5.4 was running kind of rough so I changed the spark plugs. Took her for a ride, better but still shook and struggled up hills. No CEL.... So I figured change the coil packs since the go bad like they did on my Excursion....
Buy a new set and install them. Go for a ride.... still rough with rough idle.... I removed them 1 by 1 and made sure they seated back right on the spark plug, go for a ride again.... still shaking.....
So I say time to get the code reader and stop monkeying around. Even though my CEL was not on the reader shows a code of P304.... misfire cylinder 4. Figures the one all the way in the back on the passenger side.
I replaced the new coil pack with one of the old ones, fired her up go for a ride.... hurray! Nice and smooth..... smooth idle and all. After I cleaned up and put everything away I looked at the coil and noticed one of the pins was bent.... oh well save it, it is probably good.
The tool needed to change theses coil packs and they can be changed in a minute is this....
