Navigation package and Sync
I haven't had my truck for more than a few days and I've already broken it!
While checking out the audio system in my new (used) truck, I found that there was a CD left by the previous owner. I ejected it (it took forever for the player to spit it out) and inserted one of mine. It swallowed it but won't play it and seems to be trying to "barf" it back up. I can't get it to eject no matter what. Also, the entire audio/nav system doesn't work now.
I have two options;
1. Take it to the dealer (I purchased an extended warranty).
2. Get an aftermarket nav head unit that works with Sync (like Alpine INA-W910). According to the Crutchfield website, this fits and will work with Sync and the computer.
How reliable is the original unit? Would I be better off replacing it with an aftermarket unit? Or, should I take it to the dealer and see how long it lasts after they fix it?
Thanks,
John
I'd take it to a dealer, it shouldn't cost you anything to get it fixed and/or replaced.
I may wind up replacing my nav head unit anyway, but it makes sense to get the original fixed/replaced too.
I've looked into the extended warranty fine print and it looks like I have a $100.00 deductible for the electronics and high-tech stuff. It still worthwhile to get the original fixed.
The original doesn't sound that great, but a speaker upgrade would fix some of that and still would be way less expensive than a full-on replacement.
The Alpine unit is supposed to work with the steering wheel controls, the back-up camera, Sync, and the anti-theft system, but I wouldn't know unless I dove in head first.
Caveat Emptor, eh?
Thanks again,
John
