so i am plaining on getting the pc based ae scanner. do i need to buy the extra ford add on for another $200 , bringing the total cost to about $450 or does the base model tell me what i need to no about my early 1999 7.3
or do they have a hand held model ? what do most of you all use ? thanks chris
You need the enhanced bundle to see information from the 7.3 motor. If you don't get it, you'll just be able to pull generic codes like abs and stuff, but no engine codes. A $30 scanner from the local parts house will pull those.
What is your location? What truck do you have? How many miles? What is wrong with your vehicle? This group of people on this site are very smart. We can troubleshoot almost anything on your truck.
i keep trying to enter all that info under user cp but its not workin out for me. i have an early 99 f-350 7.3 turbo, 144,000 miles i'm in cincinnati, oh. i would love to hook up with somebody in the area from the site to trade knowledge. hell i even have an over sized garage with 10' doors, i could host . lol. anyway, i got 2 injectors not firing at all,so thats the first fix. look back at my earlier post, that will explain it. anyway, i'm running stock now, well, after market air intake and 3.5 strait pipe from the turbo back. i'm finally going to get gauges and tunes and i just wanna no what i got and what i'm gonna have . thanks again for the info. chris
another question, i no the sludge from an old 300 gallon home heating fueloil tank is what i put in my tank and is what clogged my injectors. so i'm gonna pull just those two, tear em down clean them and put em back to see what happens. already cleaned everything up to that point. so my question is, just suck out the two cylinders pull those 2 gp and hand crank. no oil or fuel should get any where else right.
Something to consider: I have a "Carputer", it's a netbook. It has my DP Tuner interface, GPS, ISSPRO EV2 gauge interface, AE, all my digital documentation, pictures of the work I do on the truck, online receipts, and anything else truck-related I can come up with. There was a time when all you needed was a small folder and a manual in the glovebox... but technology is taking over the world and I'm braced for it.
I don't think the question about the laptop was leaving the desktop as an option, it would be nice if it worked on a smart phone or an Ipad... but they haven't done that yet.

I was not really serious about the desktop comment. Just being a smart*** as usual. Didn't even think about Ipad type devices - don't really know what they are. Computers were a long way off when I was in school.

How is it the sludge only affected two injectors? And how do you plan on cleaning the internals? Do you have the tools to disassemble the entire injector to clean the inside of it, or are you just going to clean the outside and spray the holes with some type of cleaner?

Correct. Oil should not get anywhere else, but after rotating the engine by hand and re-installing the injectors, crank it a couple of times with the starter and the glow plugs out to blow out any remaining fluids. Just be sure to disable the truck so it doesn't start when you crank it. (unplug the CPS, pull the IDM relay, etc.)
I have never seen one, I figured you would need one for data runs and such but did not know if it was stand alone device. I don't own a laptop or notebook so I would need one of those too.
