Have been looking for a OBD 2 scanner just to have around, haven't had a CEL since I first purchased the X 2 years ago and had to replace the VSS.After reading reviews it seems that in the low end scanners Innova seems to come out good as far as the scanner but more important is the customer service should it be needed. Since we are a family of 6 Xmas is limited to 500.00 each, now that would get a good scanner but for something I am not sure how often I would need it, or a friend, I want to keep it under 100.00. Mainly due to the fact that I want to get a new prop for the boat, and new cooking paraphernalia, as weekend cooking for people is in large amounts. The one that I have narrowed it down to is
I have 2 different kinds. I originally have an Acton cheapo one for about $65 at your local auto parts store. It only displays the code, nothing more. It also let's you erase the codes.
Later, I got the scangauge 2 to monitor trans temps. It has a built in code reader and much better than the Acton. It's plugged in all the time, but it could be hooked up to other vehicles as well. That one was about $130 on ebay.
I have a Craftsman (innova resticker) that I bought 2 years ago. it works very good for a cheap scanner. I paid $180 on line with my sears card and ordering online savings. it also reads ABS and SRS codes on alost all american cars. they now offer onethat will read body codes too!
I tried the Inova 3130, nice scanner, with live data and abs option. It would not pull any live data on a 7.3. I sent it back and got a ScanguageII. For a little more $$ I got a lot better tool!

Did you buy just the scangauge or was there other software required to monitor transmission?
If you have a smart phone, buy the torque app for $5.00 and a blue tooth obd adapter on amazon.com for $25-$100 they are amazing. If you have a code it will send to a web site to help you, 1/8-1/4 mile stats, data logging & more!
I have an SGII and Torque Pro/adapter. For daily use I prefer the SGII. It's so much easier to just leave the SGII plugged in and mounted all the time, than have to mess with my phone.
