My truck just acted up on me. Missing real bad. Sounds like half of the cylinders. Could this be an IDM? I'm sitting in a parking lot. Scared to drive it.
Can you pull the valve cover pigtails off one by one and pin point which one is shutting down? Do this while it is running, and see if one doesnt effect the idle.
Yes the IDM can shut down the entire bank, and it can be due to a bad UVCH or bad injector solenoid. If you can clear the codes, there's a chance you can get two of the injectors to come back online if you figure out which UVCH connector needs to stay unplugged.
Disconnect both connectors on the dead bank. Clear the codes (or disconnect the batteries for a bit) plug one of the connectors back in and see if you get lucky. If not, repeat but unplug the other connector.
You can limp it home on 6 injectors. You could even limp it home on just the 4, but your mirrors might seem like they're going to fall off.
Great, helpful and quick responses. Thank you everyone.
So one toasted UVCH harness can cause the IDM to shut down the whole bank? I just pulled the IDM and will try to meter some stuff next week. Of course this happens the night before a hunting trip...but ill make due.
I did limp it home on 4 cylinders (about 3 miles up some steep hills), and it was not fun. Hoping i didnt do any damage.
I did check Riff Raff first, always. Just doing some searching around. The dorman kit seems alittle more conveinent but i want something that will hold up.
We sell Motorcraft over Dorman because over the years we have had seen quality issues with them. Don't want to sell something we won't even use on our own trucks :-)
