Ok today I had a customer come in to rent a trailer with his 2001 F150 XLT 4x4, so I am hooking him up and we are talking about how the truck is new to him (I would put this guy about 18-19 years old ) and how the first big mod he wanted to do was put swap in 2.5t Rockwell axles front and back.
Now I asked him how and why and all I got from him was if those axles work for a Jeep then they would work just as well on his F150 so he could go on the serious off road trails.
I will admit that my curiosity is peaked with the idea of such big heavy duty axles being on a F150 but has anyone heard of this being done? Could it theoretically work and if so how?
I've seen guys throw on dana 60s and do a SAS. I don't see why he would ever need the strength of 2.5 ton rockwells unless he plans on mud bogging with 54" tires and is laying down some serious horse power. Even so, I know some professional mud boggers who stick with dana 60s (for weight reasons) and they hold up to 900+ hp and 38.5" boggers. I hope he does some research before he mauls up a perfectly good truck.

I just can't see how you would change the front axle from a Torsen bar based IFS to SFA at least not without going to leaf springs or the like right?
