And don't forget that the serial numbers (last 6 digits of the VIN) apply to all series' of trucks, Bronco's and Econolines.
Toss Rangers, Bronco II's, Aerostars, Explorers/Mountaineers, Expeditions and etc into the mix beginning the first day each was introduced.
So while 639897 could be a 65 F100, what's the next? C700? NT500? No one knows, cuz FoMoCo THREWAWAY all the records that pertain to 1966 and earlier trucks decades ago.
All that's available are scant production figures from R. L. Polk & Co., that has kept these records for the entire autobiz since the 1920's.
These figures do not break down Standard from Custom Cabs from Rangers, do not breakdown M/T's from A/T's, how many came with this engine, how many came with that engine.
How many were painted mouse fur grey, came with sage brush upholstery, how many had options like radios, heaters, rear bumpers, spare tire and the wheel and whatever.
So far I have had only two sets of trucks, built with sequential numbers. I do have some that were three numbers off. These were built in different plants, which brings up the question, could they have duplicate serial if the plant or model was different?
