Without swearing??? Looks like everything on the front on the engine on van is a PITA...
I haven't pulled a van engine, but suspect its much easier after getting the other stuff off the front of the van first (radiator, AC condenser, etc). Actually, the engine can prolly come out w/fan on.
There is a tool for removing the fan - its a 1 7/8" skinny wrench and a thingy that goes over the pulley bolts to hold it while ya turn. You can 'rent' one from autozone/discount auto/etc: Fan Clutch Wrench | AutoZone.com
I have done it with a pipe wrench and chain wrench to hold pulley and have read where others 'tap' the nut with a drift to loosen it up.
The engine is out, wondering if I can just take off the 4 little fan clutch bolts or do I need to get those darn tools
Nope, ya gotta take the clutch off first. You just gotta hold the pulley while you turn that big nut - or use the brute-force method of tapping the nut.
